well, where do i start, for me personally, this album is head and shoulders above anything, i have ever listened to. (Gish/machina are amazing, i must say) this album encapsulates youth, and the whole spectrum of emotions, for me, there are no fillers, as the cds, are like going on a journey, and all different styles, and moods are used, soft and quiet, love and hate, hope, and despair. If ever an album is a work of genious this is it...thank god, it isnt mainstream, and accessable to everyone, as surely this would mean it wouldnt be half as good. Corgan had loads more songs that he couldnt fit into melloncollie, and these b sides are worthy of an album release independantly(the aeroplane flies high box is cool for these). The sheer creative ... Read More:

i got into this band quite sometime after hearing heroin is so passe which i always liked but never owned. this album features the overplayed bohemian like you but on the advice of a friend i took the plunge and snapped it up.
glad i did quite frankly. to say i wasnt expecting banjos is an understatement and some of the tracks are melodic in the extreme. if your after a slightly dark and tuneful collection of songs then this album will certainly float your boat.

What more needs to be said about what is probably one of the top five, perhaps top three rap albums of all time. It's just packed to bursting point with beats and ryhmes that are as "FRESH" today as they were twenty odd years ago. If you have any respect for classic old school rap you have to own this album!
Release Date October 20, 2003
I'm glad that I had got The Colour and the Shape and Nothing Left to Lose before I got this. To me is has always sounded rougher and a lot less commercial than the later albums. I like it more now but it took me a while to get into as it isn't as polished and some of the songs sound a bit messy and dated.
One of my favourite songs from this album is `Exhausted'. I thought there was something wrong with my CD when I first heard it! It's made up of static or feedback (something like that I'm not a technical person when it comes to music), and drumming. You really get used to it after a couple of listens and it sounds a lot better but very moody and distant sounding. It was the same with the rest of the album really- at first I wasn't sure, but I ... Read More:

I was instantly captivated by the soaring vocals, lush harmonies and orchestrations, and sterling production of this their 11th album. On this album there are pop singles (the catchy yet wistful "Fight Test," the tongue-in-cheek title track), instrumentals (the aggressive "Part II" of the title track and the smooth & mellow, Grammy-winning "Approaching Pavonis Mons by Balloon") and even a prog rock number ("In the Morning of the Magicians") reminiscent of mid-1970's Yes.
The range of music on this record is astonishing. The pristine production values help the songs flow together and enhance the overall listening experience. Superficially a concept album about a Japanese girl who battles evil robots, "Yoshimi" is really a meditation about life ... Read More:

I have to admit that I didn't recognise any of these when I looked at the track titles - apart from Don't Speak! However, when I listened to the album I found that I knew a lot of the tracks but just didn't link them with the group or song titles!
I would never have said that I was a No Doubt fan - something that has, however, changed since listening to this album. It is wonderful and gives a newcomer to or a real fan of the group's music the best of their tracks. Let's face it - the singles artists release into the charts are usually the pick of their work and this album is made up of No Doubt's single releases from 1992-2003. The album could easily have been called their greatest hits and leaves me in No Doubt that it is worth the money. After all ... Read More:

I have an eclectic music collection yet somehow Eels had escaped me. I bought this a week ago and haven't stopped playing it. For me it is simply perfect. The song structures, the lyrics, the musicianship and of course the well of emotion from which E draws. The crazy thing is that I had heard of his Dad first !! Despite this being over a decade old it is just so artistically relevant, it appeals on so many levels and Ive enjoyed it loudly at home, in the car and even in a chill out mode....and it works. Intelligent, original and very refreshing. In fact freakishly beautiful.

Being too young to remember the original Counting Crows boom in the Nineties, I approached this album with some trepidation, unsure what to expect. And it blew me away.
It opens with Angels of the Silences, a very loud, powerful rock track (and not one of my favourites - I prefer the more acoustic version on Across a Wire). It moves straight on to Round Here, a track which took a while to grow on me, but when it did, it became one of my all time favourite songs, and remains so.
Rain King is fairly upbeat and cheerful, and A Long December is slightly more wistful, whilst Hanginaround is more of a swing record - all three pretty good, if slightly unremarkable.
Mrs Potter's Lullaby is the longest song on the album, but it'll pass a lot ... Read More:

Man, this is a bad album. Unless you like reggae or ska of course, in which case it's fine. But if you're looking to buy this as a back catalogue of Gwen Stefani, then please don't, it really isn't very listenable.
