I came to Devo only recently, through the work of Mark Mothersbaugh in Wes Anderson’s movies, it was upon hearing Gut Feeling during the movie The Life Aquatic with Steve Zizzou that I finally sort out Devo, I'm very happy I did.
Devo released albums between 1978 and 1990, this compilation chooses only to showcase the period 78-83, which is considered their prime. the album is not chronological but it does generally put songs of the same time period together, this is a smart move since the earliest material is close to punk and their later exploits are new-wave bordering on electro.
For newcomers the Cd is excellent covering all of their most popular recordings, in fact most of these were singles, in no particular ... Read More:

Having been really impressed with 'My Own Prison' I thought I would be just as impressed with this, Oh how wrong I was!!! It has no songs that you would remember 5 minutes after listening to them. Dull Dull Dull

If you ever buy one album randomly, make it this one! The last album from the 10,000 maniacs with Natalie Merchant and by far their best overall. Every song is stunning, from the ecstatic "these are days" and "stockton gala days" to the beautiful "noah's dove" and "eden" (very possibly the best thing they ever wrote). There are definite twitches here of where Merchant went on to take her solo stuff and it is quite different in tone to the earlier maniacs albums. There are still some suitably politically dissatisfied nuggets though (like the brilliant "candy everyone wants") to give some continuity with the earlier albums.
I have listened to a fair bit of music and this is quite simply the most underexposed album i have ever heard. Buy it, love it ... Read More:

So, admittedly, you'd be in the definite minority if you said that this was unreservedly the Chilis best work. What you may be surprised is how close it actually comes to 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik'
Earlier Chili Peppers albums are not that good. They suffer from poor production, a lack of experience, and is the sound of a band partying harder than they play. The party theme is still ongoing, but this album sounds a million times better, and is actually listenable.
Now onto the songs. 'Fight Like a Brave' is a grower. It sounds a bit of a mess, but is a great footstomping call-to-arms. 'Me & My Friends' is another in a similar vein, as is the excellent 'Organic Anti Beat-Box Band'. 'Funky Crime' is a slower, funkier song, as is 'Walking ... Read More:

Wow! This album is a must for the collection, great clever lyrics,punk/reggae/dub mix and some borrowed tunes do make for a good combo. These guys had a passion for music, they were'nt in it for the cash. Ten years after buying it and many copys stolen later I still listen to it alot. The whole album rocks but my favourites are 'smoke two joints', 'bad fish', 'D.J.s' and the Bad Religion cover of 'were only guna die', but really I love them all.

This Album to me is their best i all their other albums some more than others. To have an Album with so many different styles and still manage to satisfy the fans has got to show that Rancid are a very well formed band.
I would say this album is different from the others Abit more Reggae and ska mixed with punk. Its a brilliant collection of songs.
I would Recommend this to Rancid fans wishing to explore more about the band.
Some people just prefer Out Come The wolves and Indestructible. I would say give this a try. C'mon give it a try ;)

This album is full of the complex rhythms and quirky tunes mixed with admittedly bizarre lyrics to make something that works unusually well. If you have listened to a little Talking Heads or own a 'best of' compilation, I would highly recommend this as a must buy album on the way to becoming a full-blown fan. Very infectious!

Where do I start with this fantastic body of work? I remember many moons ago, my dad playing this album and the opening bars of "Good Times Roll" stuck in my head and it wasn't all that long ago when those bars came back to me but I couldn't remember which album it was. So I went through all those vinyl albums he had and finally found it and straight away bought it on CD. Now about the album itself. "Good Times Roll" is my favourite track has it holds the most memories for me. "My Best Friends Girl" is a track that I can't imagine anyone not liking, a classic single. "Just What I Needed" is also one of my favourites off this album and was also a single. "I'm In Touch With Your World" is yet again one of my favourites and it's a real shame that it doesn't get the exposure that ... Read More:

This album is very poor for what it could of been. This is basically a load of live tracks from different shows spanning 5 years. Many of the venues and dates from which the tracks suposedly orignate from are wrong!
another major problem with this record is that because its different recordings, the passion and consistancy thats prssent in most nirvana shows is lost.
On the otherhand the tracks are not that bad seperately and are a good mix of nirvanas best songs. This should of been the track listing for there greatest hits. Hopefully a full live recording will be released.
if you want to check out good live nirvana then listen to there unplugged album
