Excellent album, my first Sabri brothers CD. I like what i hear so far, especially the deep soul-full sounds of the first Qawwal. My heart will forever be devoted to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan first and foremost, however the more Sufi music I can expose myself to the greater is the appreciation of the truly awesome and greatness of this genre of music that seems to break all conventional barriers in human understanding of a higher power.

Sampradaya is the passing of tradition from master to disciple, from one generation to the next. As the undisputed master of the Indian santoor, Shiv Kumar Sharma has a lot to pass on to his youngest son, Rahul, who joins him on this recording. Rahul is equal to the task. The two santoors meld beautifully on the extended Hindustani raga "Janasammohini." The shimmering sound of the hammer dulcimers lends a relaxing quality as the Sharmas explore the dreamy, ethereal, serene alaap section of the raga. Tabla maestro Shafaat Ahmed Khan joins in on the second section, providing the rhythmic base on which the father and son weave increasingly complex and beautifully realized patterns. Building slowly and growing in intensity, the second and third ... Read More:

This two disc set contains some absolutely beautiful Chinese classical pieces, played on a number of traditional Chinese instruments. All twenty-four tracks on this album are beautiful, calming and greatly evocative of Chinese culture. Although all the tracks presented on these discs are brilliant my personal favourites are `Flowing Water from the High Mountain' and `Autumn Moon at the Han Palace' both of which are utterly wonderful. The album also includes information on the artists and instruments used in the pieces. Anyone interested in Chinese music will love this album.
