Great band, great tunes (you'll recognised some rocked up versions of the jazz tune from Bar Kokhba) and some wild improvisation. Runs across all kinds of tempos and tectures, and when they hit it - man! it just goes!
Highly recommend for fans of psychedelic rock, prog wig-outs, and the Bar Kokhba records.

I initially bought this cd set to do a project on T.V. music. But it has become a favouite of mine. Some of the finest pieces of music are contained on these 2 discs. The Guiness advert is a personal favourite as is the Karl Orff tune. The music is so powerful, so inspirational. If you enjoy this sort of music you'll love these cd's, and even if you dont there are still tunes that you can relate to because of their prestige in world music.

It is very difficult trying to communicate with you, not knowing who you are and not having any technical knowledge of music to describe what I hear. This is definitely a five star recording, free solo piano- to try to offer a meaningful comparison if you have no idea what to expect, think of Keith Jarrett's Koln Concert the first time you heard it. Now I'm guessing that was a few years back and the disc is a bit familiar now. Crispell will sound new, and will probably sound 'new' for a while longer, there is something deeper, more complex here though I'm lost to name it and I found it more easy to recognise, if not to understand, than Amaryliss or Storyteller (MC's recent CDs) - and my less Free-Jazz-Tolerant partner certainly did. The Taylor/Winstone collaboration once again create a magical, highly original sound. The two complement one another, each surpassing all expectations. The album shows off Winstones pure tone and terrific range. She approaches songs with her ever avant-garde style, creating classics out of unheard songs which deserve her treatment. 'Strange Meadowlark', 'Alice In Wonderland' and 'Ladies in Mecedies' are favourites, however all the songs on this superbly crafted album are worth just as much a listen. The unique use of silence distinguishes the duo from any other around today. A duo creating astonishing results.

These 'Live in Greenwich Village' performances covering the period 1965-67 are some of the most passionate and emotional in all of jazz and is arguably Albert Ayler's finest hour(or two!)
Someone once described this music as sounding like "a Salvation Army band on LSD" and it's certainly a potent mixture of childlike themes, New Orleans marching tunes, collective free-for-alls and Ayler's blistering saxophone.
A highlight for me is the Village Vanguard 1966 recording of 'Angels' which is Ayler's impassioned, intensely moving and melodious duet with a pianist who's probably Call Cobbs Jr.
Anyone wanting just one example of Albert Ayler in their collection need look no further than this magnificent double CD which contains astonishingly ... Read More:
