This soundtrack for the movie "Frances" - Frances Farmer's 1982 biopic starring Jessica Lange - is probably John Barry's best work and one of the greatest soundtracks in cinema history. Haunting music. Barry also wrote a song based on the main theme, entitled "Close Your Eyes", specifically for the movie. Although a demo exists with Barry accompanying Sarah Brightman on piano, the song failed to make the final cut. Too bad this new SACD edition does not include it as a bonus track.

Although a marvelous attempt at sticking to the original scores for the film, this is not as it appears to be, the original soundtrack as recorded by John Barry, but a digitally re-vamped version by Nic Raine and the City of Prague Philharmonic, using the original scores.
The John Barry Recordings were only released in America on promotional Vinyl LPs around the film's release date in 1976.
Although this recording lacks the finer touches that make the original score fit the mood of the film so magnificently, it's as good as you are likely to get, unless the John Barry masterpiece finally gets digitally re-mastered and released.
I feel that it should be made clear what is actually on sale here.
