This is a great CD by a bunch of fine musicians having one hell of a blast!

Recorded live in 1961, with arrangements by Al Cohn and Bill Holman, Gibbs leads the band of Hollywood players through some great tunes such as the opener 'Tico Tico' (featuring a fine solo by the tortured soul of trombonist Frank Rosolino) and others such as Parker's 'Billie's Bounce' which must be heard to be believed!

There are some great musicians here aside from the under-rated Rosolino - Al Porcino and Conte Candoli on trumpets, tenor men Richie Kamuca and Bill Perkins, alto players Joe Maini and Charlie Kennedy, as well as Mel Lewis on drums.

I love it!

Stan Getz never better than when playing Bossa Nova! This is basically the lot including several different versions of the same tune. Pricey, and 4 instead of 3 CD's which it could have been, purists will still want the full collection. Others should seek out the excellent long one CD set on Verve, Jazz Masters 53 which has much of the best from his Bossa Nova years. Whichever, the CD remasters from LP are awesome and I just play these over and over though occasionally I tire of Astrud's plaintive wail, where it occurs - though not her cheeky telephone song, (not on Jazz Masters but here and elsewhere).

Firstly I would like to say "what a fantastic album" and such a brilliant way of presenting his life and what it stood for. It contains many of his incredible recordings from 1945 - 1947 and reminds you of why he is one of the all time grand jazz masters. This is a great album to buy if you like jazz and especially if you're a fan of parker's fully-fledged style.
