There's a lot to like about this album. kd's voice is beyond reproach, and she keeps things smooth and restrained throughout, which I like, never approaching the 'Constant Wailing' that marrs some of her work. This is just personal preference of course, but I definitely prefer the more laid-back kd.
Production is good too, and the backings are lush and interesting, somewhat reminiscent of 'Ingenue' at times, but this is no bad thing. It really is a very musical album. Almost easy listening, you could say.
If there's a problem for me, it's that none of the songs really stand out from each other. It's almost like it's the same song all the way through. Mostly it's quite a good song, thankfully, but everything does blur into a musical ... Read More:

Not much to say seeing as everyone has said it, but this is a brilliant album and has brought me to appreciate jennings and kristofferson (who i had not heard much of before)

Yet another greatest hits album, but what the hell, this contains every decent track he has ever recorded. Many collections are padded out with gastly stocking filler tracks, not this one. I must admit that I really liked at least 20 of the tracks on this. Enough said.

I bet this was a fantastic live show - shame it sounds so flat on the CD!
Unlike the other reviewer I came to this recording as a fan of Willie Nelson. I think Willie sounds pretty good on the whole - I just wish there was a bit more of him! His regular harmonica buddy, Mickey Raphael, is the real star of the show for me - his soloes shine above everyone else!
The first two tracks, "Bright Lights, Big City", and Willie's own "Night Life", are the highlights for me. The lowest points being the two tracks associated with Hank Williams ("My Bucket's Got a Hole in It" and "Nobody's Business"), which, for me, don't seem to work in this jazz setting.
All in all, it's not a terrible album but certainly not one that will ... Read More:

Although these guys have adopted the hairy bearded look of the Band and occasionally sound Dylanesque they stamp their own identity firmly on this disc - a set of 15 songs without a dud to be found. Tales of the old and new West predominate as evoked in titles like Frankie's Gun, Whiskey in my Whiskey and Helen Fry. In a strange way the sound evokes not just alt-country legends like Green on Red but also the swirling organ and heavy back beat of the Wailers at their best. This is an outstanding collection which rewards repeated listening.

I bought this album for two reasons. First and foremost, the music is so beautiful, original and real compared to most of the other stuff about at the moment. The second reason is my support of free speech, especially when what is said is correct! The way the chicks (particularly natalie) were treated was horrendous and genuinely unbelievable but it has only made them stronger and theyve come back better than ever. From a first glance at the album cover you know what youre about to listen to is going to be interesting. The girls have matured so much, and if you contrast the covers of this and 'Home' of 5 years back you would struggle to believe it is the same chicks! Then again, alot has happened in their lives between the making of these two albums. The lyrics reflect ... Read More:

Karma ? Yin and Yang ? Synchronicity ? Who Know's.
What I do know for sure, however, is that having spent
a couple of painfully wasted hours listening to Santogold's execrable
debut album I was very ready for some honest musical sustenance.
I found it here In Ryan Bingham's most recent album 'Mescalito'.
Comparisons abound but try to put them to one side.
Let's listen to Mr Bingham on his own evident merits.
Somehow honesty and authenticity shines through in all
music of worth and this is indeed a very worthy little album.
The grit and gravel in our hero's voice serves his material well.
Whether in slippin' and slidin' stompers such as 'Bread and Water'
and "Dollar A Day', ... Read More:

A solid collection of mainstream pop duets between Olivia and a roster of big international names: Cliff Richard, Barry Gibb, Delta Goodrem, Richard Marx, Keith Urban, Jann Arden and Olivia's long-time producer, John Farrar. This is probably the most pop-oriented new studio album Olivia has produced since the late 80s, and so is likely to find favour amongst fans who remember those days with fondness.
The song choices are very strong, and offer a pleasing variety which showcases Olivia's vocal talents very well. A particular highlight is "Reckless", a track originally recorded on John Farrar's eponymous 1980 album, and a song that fans have wanted ONJ to record for years. Here, she adds her vocals to Farrar's original recording, giving the track a heady, timeless ... Read More:
