When I first heard James was reuniting, my heart was being tugged on in two directions. I would love to hear James again, but I was expecting a half hearted attempt at rekindling the magic that made James such a good band in the first place. "Hey Ma" proves my doubts wrong, and then some.
"Bubbles" begins the album with a song about new life, describing Tim Booth's joy as a father. This song is reminiscent of Laid era work - uplifting, but atmospheric. While Eno isn't here to produce this album, his presence is still felt.
But the sound quickly shifts to jam-based anthemic rock that James successfully mastered with "Gold Mother" and "Laid." "Hey Ma" might be described as an optimistic protest song. Tunefully, ... Read More:

To be honest, I did not think much of "Who Killed..." A couple of catchy pop tunes, for sure, but it was "bubble gum" music for the most part. This album remains true to the band's sense of having fun with their music, but it has a much more confident sound and the production is much improved. Touring the States with The Killers also seems to have rubbed off on how the band now sounds. Moreover, to their credit, the record again romps home in just over 40 minutes.
The themes are varied and frequently concern the more mundane aspects of life - the stress of taking public transport to work ("Tired of Hanging Around"), why good nights out always end in miserable hangovers the next day ("It's the Little Things We Do"), or getting over a ... Read More:

Well, finally I was able to hear this single and I can say that the A-side, The Perfect Boy, is brilliant, as always. The Cure did amazing job with the arragements and the lyrics are lovely. Robert Smith is the only person in the whole world who can express all kinds of emotions using simple (not so simple really)words... Astonishing!
So why did I give this release 4 stars out of five? Maybe it's a blasphemy, but I prefer SWID as single, its b-side, Down Under, is brilliant, innovative and breathtaking song while Without You is rather dissapointing, average track. The music is fine (though there's nothing special about it), but it's the vocal melody that ruined this song for me - I LOVE Robert Smith's voice, it's unique and beautiful ... Read More:

(What's The Story) Morning Glory? is mostly succesful. Some may be put off by the Gary Glitter association of Hello; and Hey Now & Roll With It are pretty forgettable. When it's good, however, it's very good indeed:Cast No Shadow, Champagne Supernova, Some Might Say etc...

I see less of comparison with Joy Division than with the also-rans of the 80s big overcoat scene such as The Chameleons though without their originality. For a few minutes the debut album offered something to people who might be missing JD, early Bunnymen and The Sound but with the second they merely come across as lightweight carbon copies of.. Interpol. But I guess at least they dont sound like all the rest of the current crop of tousle haired indie clones.

I'm really surprised by some of the negative reviews here! This is a great album and I'd recommend it to anyone. Yes, it's different from his first two albums but that's not a negative thing at all. This album explores different styles successfully and can be listened to over and over. I've played it to people who don't even know of Jason Mraz and they've loved the songs. If you appreciate great singing and songwriting, then buy this album. Jason Maz isn't that well-known in the UK and if we keep it that way, it's us missing out, not him.

Any album that is next in line for release after a "Greatest Hits" style CD is going to be a tough one to fathom; both for the band, and the fans. It can often put the band under a lot of pressure and strain to deliver, especially when you have a record as clean and exceptionally impressive as that of Grant Nicholas' Feeder. Many people thought 'The Singles' was the band's way of telling everyone that they were finally calling it a day, and yet 2 years on, here we are with Feeder's new album Silent Cry; and what an album it is.
Straight from the opening chord of first single 'We Are the People', it would seem that Feeder have come out with a real purpose. No longer do they seem to be reluctant to plug in their guitars and return to their roots with crunching ... Read More:

Hmmm, how does one sum up this album in just a few words? Dark, mysterious, melodic, industrial, melancholic, desolate - any or all of these apply. Others have already waxed lyrical about the 'feel' of the album, but I think you really have to listen to it - all of it. Maybe even a few times, as it took a few listens for me to really 'get it'.
As soon as I did 'get it' I totally loved it, and it remains one of the most frequently played albums in my collection even after nearly 15 years.
Never bettered or even equalled by Portishead since in my opinion.
