I was recently given this as a birthday present. Of-course I was ecstatic, as I had been wanting the CD for about a year, although I was wary of buying music over the Internet.
Unfortunately, two of the songs I was most looking forward to hearing disappointed me: 'If I Can't Love Her' and 'Whistle Down the Wind', especially the latter. Despite the beautiful arrangements, I felt that the singing quality on these two was disappointing. 'If I Can't Love Her' sounded slightly strained, and I felt that there could have been more genuine emotion put into the performance. For me 'Whistle Down the Wind' was the biggest disappointment, as, again, the singing sounded almost horribly strained, and his voice was noticeably close to cracking ... Read More:

I remember listening to these songs when I was a child in my Mum's car. I'm not exactly an Easy Listening fan, but he has such a wonderful voice. His songs really are good and original. This collection has the best of all of his songs in my opinion. A very good buy!

This being Harry Nilsson's most popular album (garnering three major hits), is Harry's most entertaining album. Every song is upbeat containing romantic, rock, silly and torch songs filling your ears. "Down" pushes the envelope of reckless rythym and blues abandon, while "Jump Into The Fire" showcases the same frantic voice working a drum/bass line that never lets up. "Without You" is his most known song, a true tear-jerker and "Coconut" will make you laugh or drive you nuts. Finishing off with the romantic "I'll Never Leave You", Harry Nilsson pulls on your heart strings. Richard Perry did a marvelous job of production; probably one of his best and for the perfect voice.

I was never a Wham fan because I am to be honest a music fan - but this album changed my mind about George Michael.
It is brilliant and brings back great memories - my girlfriend at the time ( my wife - now ex-wife ) played it non-stop and she converted me into a fan.

There must be at least 6 albums of this title yet the one I'm reviewing here is NOT any of them in spite of being misnamed as Gentleman Jim!Though its also called The Hayride Years
Its actually a live recording made with the cooperation of the Louisiana Hayride and is on a label in the U K called TK Magnum.Apparantly its also available in the States on a different label.
I discovered this one in of all places the local library and decided I had to send my penfriend Ginny Wright a copy as it starts off with an airshot promoting the Fabor label-and Ginny is heard on this along with other Fabor acts.
Trouble is it wasn't on the HMV computer so I had to order 2 copies from Ryans Country in Wales.
Ginny had incidentally never heard ... Read More:

While I can't confirm the copy protection issue reported elsewhere, I CAN say this is a pretty good summary of his work.
It's not just a good collection of his comedy songs such as Tie Me Kangaroo, Jake the Peg and Maximillian Mouse, but also shows off some of his Australian "folk" songs such as Wild Rover and Waltzing Matilda as well as some others of his eclectic styles from the gentle Fijian Girl through to his recent bizarre Led Zep cover of Stairway to Heaven.
But how can a "Best Of" NOT feature his UK number 1 "Two Little Boys???" There are plenty of other best of compilations, so you may want to try Disky's compilation "Best of Rolf Harris".

This is my all time favourite Carpenters album. A collection of some well know hits and some album gems. The album opens with a beautiful haunting prelude-Aurora, and closes with Eventide with the same music style as the opening track. Hits such as Yesterday once more and Please Mr Postman are always delights to hear, yet it's the very moving Neil Dimond track-Solitaire that is the highlight of this album, priceless, Karen's voice was perfect for tracks like this. The biggest treat after Solitaire is Happy, a very different track to the former.
Anna Netrebko's `Opera' album I think successfully builds some bridges to satisfy today's broad range of opera listeners.
There are a growing number of singers who are taking on opera music and including it in their repertory, often to the dismay of those dedicated followers of `real' opera who believe it should be left to those able to perform an entire on-stage theatre performance. Undeniably though there is a public desire to hear short, familiar opera arias and excerpts which provide enjoyment as stand alone pieces, and I am fully in favour of any artist, whether truly qualifying as an opera singer or not, taking on anything providing they do it well - a good singer can sing a three minute aria, an opera singer is required to sing the other ... A nice CD with some great songs. One missing from the list however is 'Leaving On A Jet Plane' so if you want this and only plan on buying one John Denver CD then this isn't the one for you.

This CD is an excellent introduction to what Barbra Streisand does best. It does not contain her early 60s and 70s work, nor does it contain the passionate and playful Guilty-period scores. It is rather a masterfully put together collection of ballads that, coupled with her timeless voice, would move even those few ardent critics of her work.
Ms Streisand has released many best-of's, and any further addition does raise suspicion as a possible quick way to make money. This collection, however, is beyond reproach, and even a devoted Streisand fan will probably find a song not in their collection. This is due to the inclusion of songs that are omitted from most of the other best-of compilations, such as "New York state of mind" (if there is a more beautiful ... Read More:
