There must be at least 6 albums of this title yet the one I'm reviewing here is NOT any of them in spite of being misnamed as Gentleman Jim!Though its also called The Hayride Years
Its actually a live recording made with the cooperation of the Louisiana Hayride and is on a label in the U K called TK Magnum.Apparantly its also available in the States on a different label.
I discovered this one in of all places the local library and decided I had to send my penfriend Ginny Wright a copy as it starts off with an airshot promoting the Fabor label-and Ginny is heard on this along with other Fabor acts.
Trouble is it wasn't on the HMV computer so I had to order 2 copies from Ryans Country in Wales.

Weve had the stage shows, the cole porter tracky tribute and now an album of contemporay recordings which barrowboy ruins entirely. Please enough of this crash pop vocal talent. If John was a contestant ona singing show he would be eliminated if he presented this tacky and again, useless produced album of cringeworthy songs.

These Foolish Things

At this time (1973) Roxy Music were making some truly ground-breaking music and I never really understood why Bryan Ferry felt he had do this whole album of covers. I think it's only with Roxy Music that you get to hear the things that Ferry's remarkable voice can do. I'm not sure that tracks like 'Sympathy For The Devil' should ever be touched by anyone else, and it deosn't really work for me. Having said that, 'It's My Party' is brilliant.

For me, 'Let's Stick Together' is a superior Ferry album. Apart from the musical content, a plus point for 'These Foolish Things' is that there isn't a semi-naked, distressed looking woman in sight - just a very nice cover picture of BF.

I went to see Barbra in manchester waited a life time to see her and i wasn't disapointed, it made me smile and cry at the same time, i am in shock that i was fortunate to take part in this once in a life time event.
All the songs were just as i imagined a mix of new and old just beautiful. 'Unusual way' just stunning as was 'Somewhere'.
The cd is played constanly will have to buy a spare...
I am just really hopeing that the dvd will come out soon so i can keep the memories going Thankyou Barbra you are a true star! ( dvd please)..

A good Greatest hits very reasonably priced with lots of the Sisters Decca Hits although could have done with a few rarities thrown in for serious collectors of the Andrews sisters recordings. Quality of the transfers however is very good, if you dont have their greatest hits this is a good start.

This takes me back to when I was younger. Ecce Homo is a masterpiece and the other items they sing are just fantastic. I actually bought this album the day it came out and I was not disappointed at all.

The songs are beautifully recorded, the accoustics and resonance of the room they are singing in sounds like the usual brilliant churches or cathedrals I used to sing in. This album takes me back, if you were a chorister and want to listen to when you were younger get this album. I paid £9.99 for it and I would pay that again for it, even though it is a lot cheaper on Amazon it is that good. If you want peaceful and entertaining music get this album, it is one of my faves and I love singing along even if i cannot no longer reach the notes of old :)

The Glory Of Gershwin

This album is extremely enjoyable and contains some of the greatest music and best loved songs of the 20th Century. These are fine sensitive performances by well known artists. I can't add anything to the previous reviews except my endorsement - highly recommended, nuff said.
