A fine collection of songs performed with class and elegance - as you would expect from B.M. A few words of caution however to those for whom audio quality is important. Although not mentioned on the sleeve notes, this compilation has been re-mastered, and in no small way.

There must be few sound engineers who continue clumsily plying their trade after the onset of profound tinnitus, but a listen to this CD suggests that there is somewhere, at least one determined but ill-advised sufferer.
Each track on this disc has identical heavy compression applied to the sibilant frequencies of the vocal range, pretty much eliminating the natural dynamics and obliterating the nuances of light and shade in B.M.'s capable voice. As an ... Read More:

I love this cd; It remembers me my childhood and my teenager years!! I saw the movie at the cinema when I was 12 years old and I purchased it on vinyl; now, when I found it on the cd format, I bought it inmediately!! The songs are beautiful and in excellent condition, without scratch and in a very good restoration!! buy it!!

Superb compilation with the obligatory chart successes of the 50s and 60s, some 70s tracks from her acclaimed "Memphis" and Warm and Tender" albums; a couple of fine duets with Michael McDonald and Dusty Springfield; a tribute to Queen; some excellent tracks from 2002, and most especially 4 new songs. Petula's voice is better, stronger and more soulful than ever on these fantastic, largely self-penned, rather reflective songs, recorded in London, New York, and the fantastic new studios of Arthanor Productions in Geneva in 2008 and with production by John Williams and David Hadzis. I can't review this particular disc as I don't have it, but it has all his best tracks. Anyone who doubts Matt's ability should listen to the way he can hold a perfect note - sometimes, at the end of a song, for up to 10 seconds. If this doesn't sound like much, try it yourself! Apparently, when he was in the forces, Matt used to enter talent contests, and was eventually told to stop entering because he kept winning! Scandalously, his title song to 'From Russia with Love' was removed from later issues of that film. Why??

Already, we arrive at album number six for Katherine Jenkins. With every passing year, she seems to continue to gain more momentum and popularity within her career. One reason for this should be contributed to her consistancy. She has not deviated from a selection of traditional classical pieces, hymns and modern songs (with a classical feel). This albumsticks to the formula for the most part except that the album focuses mainly on hymns or songs with a religious/spirtitual basis. Hymns include Silent Night, The Lord Is My Shepherd, Down To The River & May The Good Lord. Other tracks include the Andrew Lloyd Webber 'Pie Jesu' and the ever popular 'Hallelujah' which has been frequently covered
(even ending up in a Shrek movie).

The Ultimate Collection Special Edition

The first Ultimate collection was a single CD version released in 2006, this one is a reissue of that album plus a second disc of slightly more varied songs (less opera arias and more popular tracks) recorded live at the Royal Albert Hall.

For those who already have the original Ultimate version this should be a welcome addition to the collection, for the bonus disc is a worthy add-on rather than just a typical 'bonus disc' of alternative songs intended to boost sales.

And for those who have none of Russell's albums (where have you been?!) this is a perfect introduction to his singing.

I'm surprised by the number of reviewers who criticise Katherine because she has not performed in opera and then compare her unfavourably with leading opera singers. Nowhere on this CD (or any of her CDs and DVDs) is she described as an opera singer and her recordings do not claim to be opera. Her recordings do include some arias from opera (though not here) and these are sung very well, but she also includes Welsh songs,(again sadly none on this disc), hyms, songs from musicals and other works. This variety increases that buyers might not like every track. I bought this CD because it contains 'Samcta Maria' set to the music of the Intermezzo from Mascagmi's Cacalleria Rusticana' 'Be Still My Soul' the hymn set to the main theme from Finlandia by Sibelius ...
