I still say that this is Eminem's masterpiece, his darkest album, and the soundtrack of his darkest hour. It also ploughs the sinister and disturbing recesses of Marshall Mathers' mind, spilling them all out with a lack of reservation which is stunning.

As is so often the case, Dr. Dre's production is impeccable, and what he can do with electronic sound is akin to what some artists can do with paint. Instantly recognisable 'My Name Is' often gets a panning by the artist himself, but it's his signature tune with good reason, being an expert masterclass in uncompromising lyrics, an assault of bad taste and shocking statements, one after the other: BANG, BANG, BANG!

I've heard a lot about 'production' and how lyrics being negative doesn't matter but this LP proves how good the original ideas behind hip-hop still are and also that you don't need to rhyme negatively to be relevant. This is all about fitting each beat with each word, still not having to be too serious about yourself and just loving the sounds which we can create and doing it all for the enjoyment, the idea behind hip-hop for me.

Producer and rapper RZA told a Danish interviewer that the album he's the most proud of is this one, "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)", and it is hard to disagree with him.
What is there to say about such an essential hip hop album that hasn't been said? One classic track leads to another on this 1993 release, and today, in the year of 2008, the price is so low there are no excuses on not owning it. Even if you hate hip hop, this record may be the one to start out with, combining primarily simple and catchy beats with the funny, yet hardcore, lyrical masterpieces each member presents us with in each track.

This album is sick, the bomb, ill what ever you what ever you want to call it. It takes a while to get into Lupe The COOL as he has new style & flow which is difficult for new consumers to get hold of. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and even a 4th listen might not catch you but after that you will be hooked. The albums overall production is perfect with no album fillers (unlike many other hip hop albums i have listened to over the years). I first bought this album in 2003 when I was 13 when I was just getting into music. What a massive mistake! First of all I didn't realise how terribly this guy swears. His lyrics are just appalling. I can't understand why anyone would feel the need to swear as much as he does. As soon as I heard this album the first time I never listened to it over properly ever again. I actually bought this album mainly for Lose yourself which I really liked back then because of the energy, but his record company are such a bunch of cheapskates that they made the fans buy two albums. Lose yourself was actually put on the movie soundtrack album instead of on this album and that is so pathetic.

50's third album has received a lot of negative press. From the delays, to the dud singles, to losing the sales race to Kanye's "Graduation". In fact the writing was on the wall on this album long before, when G-Unit releases (Mobb Deep, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck) started flopping. Tony Yayo beating on young kids did not help the G-Unit cause either. One could even argue that the split with Game which resulted in Dr. Dre's semi-retirement; or even Eminem's Kim inspired semi-retirement (Note that both Dre & Eminem are missing from the executive producer credits) all conspired to doom the album before it came out. That is if you consider 600K in your 1st week a failure.
