Released in 1986, after the impressive "A Sense Of Wonder" and before the ambient "Poetic Champions Compose" and the commercially successful "Avalon Sunset", "No Guru No Method No Teacher" is an often ingnored Morrison album. Well, some of its cuts are. The work is saved purely by the monumental presence of "In The Garden" - all piano, soulful spirituality and Morrison classic moments - and, to a slightly lesser extent, the anthemic, Celtic "Tir Na Nog", with its intoxicating violin and seemingly endless verses. These are two Morrison masterpieces. However, much of the rest of the album is forgetable, in a lounge bar sort of way. When I listen to this cd, and close my eyes, I can see Ally and all the others dancing in their place! Vonda is sitting by the piano, playing, and I feel kind'a like Ally McBeal, feeling either very happy, or very sad(depending on the song)! And I think there are so many beautyful songs, that can make you either laugh or cry, and I love that! I think it's a great cd! Good job Vonda! Love, Julie S.

Blues in the album chart? Almost felt like a moral obligation to buy this. I can see that Simply Red fans will be confused and its not normal fare for blues fans but its mostly well done and there isn't a huge amount of truly modern blues that can cross over into wider tastes and if Mick doesn't sing as well as Bobby its still credit to him for bringing his hero to wider attention.
The dvd is interesting. Mick comes across as a bit of an arse but talks about this as his future musical direction so it will be interesting to see if that holds true.

This is truly a stunning piece of retro art.

The music is almost perfect, played by almost perfect musicians and sung by an almost perfect voice. There are distinct strains of Gloria Gaynor recorded in a manner that pays tribute to that great time in music. This could be the most perfect tribute album but, in it's own right, it is a fabulous piece of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. I'm so pleased I bought this.

Miles From India - A Celebration of the Music of Miles Davis

This double CD represents a large project with numerous musicians, in a number of combinations, and playing a number of Davis's more popular compositions from the 60's and 70's. So admittedly it is difficult to take in just in one go. Whilst rating it as "good/3 stars", Miles From India has not instantly become one of my favourite Indo-jazz fusion albums or likely to be. Why: because of a number of petty annoyances it carries with it, neither does it have the degree of integration of two distinct musical styles, and instead the joins show on a number of tracks.

So I offer a number of questions and observations:
a) whilst appreciating cost limitations, does recording at a several locations on the planet and with musicians not in face to face contact, make for rapport? ... Read More:

I can't express how much of a shock it is listening to this compilation. I got to them through Patto and my current fixation on Prog Rock.

This stuff isn't Prog Rock but it's fantastic stuff all the same- fresh, inventive and full of x-factor. It has a superb level of musicianship, great songs and more than my review can express.

Why this didn't catch on I'll never know, but in a selfish way I'm proud I stumbled on them. Make sure you do too!!!

if you are starting to get into diana ross and the supremes then this is a cd for you. all the hits are on this album, (not all ) you will find that most of the tracks have been changed in some way, you need to listen to other hit cds to find this out. the only bad think i will say is the very last track, you keep me hanging on,this is not a very good dance version of the song. i have 7 version's of this song and they seem to have put the worst one on this cd, why dont they think first. but apart from that it is well worth the money and you will enjoy a few special moments on the cd, with the girls giving as allways there best.
