Now this is a groove. On Chickeneye, DeeJayPunkRoc essentially takes samples from all over modern culture, puts them in a bucket and hits them with a stick. This album is proof of the raw power of a hook, and shows the trained ear PunkRoc has for a dangerously catchy sound. And that is exactly what he creates. Even in the laid back, stoned breakdowns to some of the more hiphop material on this album, I defy anyone's head not to nod. When he explodes into his acid, scratched, ballsy best (just listen to the stupidly loud opener "I Hate Everybody"); if you aren't dancing, see a doctor, or better still a mortician. It's entirely possible you don't have a pulse.

Surrender is, for me, the album that defines the The Chemical Brothers, and builds on the exceptional production of Dig Your Own Hole. Surrender has mellower moments than Dig, but still contains belters such as "Music: Response", "Out of Control", "Hey Boy Hey Girl". These tracks demonstrate the Chemicals' ability to zap your mind and body of emotion, and absorb you completely in terrific, pumping dance music. But this is no ordinary dance album, for its musical nuances, beats and imagination make it a cut above the rest. It's now the end of 2003, and I still return to listen to this album. It is an absolute classic, lost in the mists of time. If you like that kind of funky hip-hop of Ooh la la, then you *have* to buy this album. Don't get me wrong, this isn't an album based on one single - it's also varied and innovative. Simply fantastic!

I only got into the Crystal Method after hearing Busy Child Remix being played on Nitrous Oxide, but I have been blown away by this album.

It is an awesome full-on mixture of electronic rock, acid breaks and big beats. Weapons of Mass Distortion is my favourite track on there and sounds like the Prodigy.

Dark, mysterious, pulsing, funky and powerful is how I sum it up. My favourite album of 2004 so far. They always pump it up in a different way, every album...
