The legendary bootleg allegedly stolen from Garcia's house by a pizza delivery boy finally makes its "official" release. This record is fantastic. The sound quality is excellent and the overall feeling is of three musicians sitting back at home just having fun.
The "bum" notes and occassional flaws in Garcias voice only serve to make this record more intimate and spontaneous. The between song banter and wide variety if songs give the feeling you are sitting in the room with them picking the next song to play.
It's listening to records like this that you realise how much Garica is missed, his playing is fluid and warm and the new interpretaions of old songs like Amazing Grace and House of the ... Read More:

When Tom T Hall broke through in the UK there was a deluge of albums released and they didn'tcome out in the order of recording. In fact,In Search of a Song (his 2nd album) was the one I heard first, and I was amazed. At the end of the 60s,a Nashville performer was writing about real issues like A Trip To Hyden with any number of one liners to die for.But Tom could do irony as well with Little Lady Preacher which hums of sexual and religious tension.I played the album over and over each track a separate story of life, each story funny or sad or just addressing issues nobody in the USA wanted to know about, rural poverty, racism, and hypocracy.
The Rhymer and other Five and Dimers had a shock on it.Tom had recorded a song written by somebody else.Billy ... Read More:

If you like bands like Alison Krauss & Union Station or The Greencards (or even the Dixie Chicks), you'll love this - bluegrass with a contemporary spin.

I've had this album for some years now and it remains my favourite instrumental album of all time. Although I'm no musician I think I can hear and appreciate good music, but friends of mine who play semi professionally tell me the work on this album is sensational. Jerry Douglas is my favourite instrumentalist (I've seen him live a few times and he has to be seen to be believed) and for me he produces the most expressive sounds in any kind of acoustic (or electric) music. My best friend, a bass player, says that what Edgar Meyer does with a bass is almost impossible. And Russ Barenberg (who I've also seen) has the most laid back style. All in all I think this is Jerry Douglas' most consistent album -on his other, solo, albums, ... Read More:

I was suprised to see I Feel Alright on the second page of Steve Earle's CD's, as I feel it is about his best album. The songwriting is more personal than say Guitar Town, but as he had just finished his stint in jail this is not really suprising. Two songs deal with the events leading up to Steve's jail sentence, South Nashville Blues and the astonishing Cocaine Cannot Kill My Pain. The duet with Lucinda Williams is touching as is Valentine's Day, which along with Hurtin' Me, Hurtin You, see Steve reflecting on his love of, but inability with, his various partners. I Feel Alright and Hard Core Troubadour reaffirm his desire to play again (you have to remember that MCA had dropped him and no-one in Nashville would touch him after his jail sentence), while Billy and ... If you have a liking for "main-stream" country music or perhaps "Celtic" folk music, then I would thoroughly recommend this album for something different to listen to. It has familiar sounds but with a different slant. If you are a fan of bluegrass, then you will probably recognise many of the artists on this album, and I don't think you will be disappointed.
