There is a very special place kept in Country music for the music of sibling groups, and in particular, the Brother Acts. Perhaps the best known in music generally are the Everly Brothers, but preceeding them were the Louvin Brothers,Ira and Charlie, who by general consent, were the finest of them all. The reason for the special place is quite simple.Siblings grow up together. If music is in the family, they sing and play together until their reactions, harmonies and timing are honed and instinctive.
Raven have provided here 30 tracks, and it is a fine disc, not that there isn't competition for the best one disc overview, but this is the latest, and it is very good indeed.

A Lighter Touch

I listened to the music on this cd for the first time in the early eighties on an Autumn day and I could feel the mood grab my heart and soul. I have been tracking the release of the cd for over 20 years and what a delight it is to know I can now finally purchase it. I listen to a wide variety of genres of music and this cd ranks at near the top of all my cds, whether folk or not.

Chris Thile is a master of his instrument and there is some great playing on this album. There is a mix of instumentals and songs.However despite this the songs don't really stack up much and I have to say I prefer NIcklecreek (his old band) to this.

Sometimes those strange "other people who bought the Handsome Family, also bought this" links really hit paydirt. It's great coming to a whole new musical genre from nowhere, and there's no knowing history to contend with, and all you have to do is judge the music by the number of times your jaw drops open when you listen to it for the first time. my jaw dropped loads of times. Cocaine Habit. Loved the dodgy intro. My Good Girl. Yep, It's Arlene, but it still takes you by surprise when you realise. New Virginia Creeper. Surely that's Lee, at work, at work. Let It Alone. There's also a nice variety in this album - your "favourite track" may keep changing - mine did, from 'Spit On a Stranger' to 'Speak' to 'The Beauty and the Mess' to the FANTASTIC 'Green and Gray'. It's a keeper, I'll have a soft-spot for this album for life. These musicians will surely be recognised more and more as the world begins to wake up to their talent. Buy it, you'll love it!
