As with some other great bands such as Nirvana, the first recorded work actually proves to be the best once all the hype has died away. Raw and beautiful, each track an individual masterpiece.
There are other great White Stripes records, but no other perfect White Stripes records. This is the masterpiece.

From the opening salvo of "Never Make Your Move Too Soon", Joe Bonamassa leaves you in no doubt what to expect from this album: race-tuned blues of the sort people used to play when "guitar hero" was a compliment rather than a put-down. Once again he leans heavily on the souped-up Marshall-type sounds of the seventies, but only in a good way. There are some classics in the making here: his re-working of "Reconsider Baby" into a minor key is a triumph, opening it up and creating a Stairway to Heaven vibe; "Revenge of the 10-Gallon Hat" (a tribute to the late Danny Gatton) is a jaw-dropping display of country-style picking at an almost impossible speed; the title track, written by Steve Winwood and originally recorded by Blind Faith, begins with the ... I would say that this Live album captures Robert Cray at his very peak with songs from his very best albums.
I have his only other Live album that was released only recently "Live Across the Pond" and I would say that whilst I really liked that double album this one surpasses it. Even the lesser known songs such as "Don't You Even Care" scream with raw emotion. His guitar playing is awesome, his singing is serene. If you have never listened to Robert Cray - PLEASE START NOW.

I like the Stones and I love raw blues and R&B but I somehow missed out on "Exile on Main Street". So, enthused by such great reviews, I was expecting something special... an earthy, pseudo-live album that, despite its origins in drug addled chaos, would grab my attention and be worth the effort of repeat listening while, on the way, delivering up some classic gems. Well I tried, but what I kept getting was a voice saying "look, matey, you could spend hours trying to get into this but the truth is it ain't that good".
Maybe, like Neil Young's "Tonight's the Night" - whose origins and chaotic structure are similar but which still grabs valued space in my music collection - you had to buy it at the time and then listen to it for many years ... Read More:

From the crackle and hiss of the first moment on the first disc through to the credits of the DVD this collection is, perhaps redefines, quality. Not ever a Chris Rea fan in the past - I have been an avid follower of all the Jazzeeblue material, and it is some of the finest music I've ever heard. It is so clearly a work of love and dedication which inspires, entertains, and even teaches - played by people clearly doing what they should be doing. Sometimes I get off on simply the production quality; other times I wonder how on earth they blended guitar and piano like that. Just a truly marvellous musical experience. At this price I will buy a second set so I can play it in different rooms. If anyone asks me what does 'genius' mean, I will refer them to this collection. ... Read More:

Possibly the definitive Cale album, though there are other contenders, 'Okie' sees him running through a varied range of approaches without putting a foot wrong. 'Crying' and 'Cajun Moon' are intense and brooding; 'I'll Be There' and 'Everlovin' Woman' are bright and jaunty; 'Anyway The Wind Blows' is earthy, hypnotic; 'Rock And Roll Records' is an outstanding, mid-paced number; 'Precious Memories' is a beer crate singalong country item. 'I Got The Same Old Blues' is the climax that speaks for itself. Like most of Cale's alums, 'Okie' weighs in at a little over half an hour, but its intimacy wastes nothing.
Release Date April 06, 1998
Great stuff. While I was not yet old enough at the time the album was produced (I heard the album first in the late 70's), the feel is late 60's and yet completely timeless at the same time. I think the voice of Gregg Rolie is just fantastic on a couple of the tracks, and the whole band is simply outstanding. There is a fair bit of bonus on the legacy version of the album. Abraxas and the third album are more polished, but perhaps the slight rawness of this first album is part of the attraction.

If this really were the best of Cream it would consist almost entirely of live tracks whereas in fact there is only one included here, the celebrated 'Crossroads'. In any case 'Wrapping Paper' and 'Anyone For Tennis' obviously have no business being here as 'the best of' but are here simply because they happened to be released as singles, more because of Cream's management than Cream themselves. On the other hand of course this sort of compilation traditionally rounds up things that are not included on the main albums thus insuring sales to completists.
I really wish they had not chosen to take 'I'm So Glad' from 'Fresh Cream' as this does sound very artificial especially when compared with the amazing live version on 'Goodbye Cream'. There are other far more successful tracks ... Read More:

This is without a doubt the best White Stripes album. Where as elephant recieved much critical acclaim and gave them the success they earned, this album seems to not start where elephant left off. The White Stripes prove with this album that they are not a one trick pony. Instead of making another classic modern guitar album like elephant, they decide to make an album mainly of songs on paino and other random instruments.
This album is very experimental but its not experimental for the sake of it, instead its experimental in order to adapt and modify their sound. This album features many great singles such as my doorbell, and some great songs like the nurse and little ghost. It also has songs such as red rain which prove Jack White is the best guitarist of his generation. This is a modern ... Read More:

It`s so horrible to think of Lynyrd Skynyrd recording a Christmas album like they did in 2000. Ronnie, Allen and Steve must have been spinning in their graves. The fact is, and I saw the reformed 1991-version and bought the albums from that time too, that in 1977 these guys were dangerously close to world domination...they had just released the incredible "Street Survivors", which suggested the addition of Steve Gaines would add a another dimension, and also their world tour had left fans worldwide gasping for more. The band consumed so many drugs and so much alcohol that it`s a wonder they ever made it to the stage, but they did, and they were on cracking form at the Fox Theatre back in `76.
I`m not absolutely sure about the set-list but that`s my only quibble - Ronnie Van Zant felt that ... Read More:
