You would think that songs from the 1970s would sound a little dated by now; but then you wouldn't be talking about Elkie Brooks' Pearls, the CD that gave me a heads up 30 years ago and which recently made me rediscover her on CD (now that I had nothing on which to play my original vinyl copy).
Her gravelly voice goes so well with the words, which will get you sobbing into your glass of Beaujolais if you are in the least bit emotional.
If you don't know of Elkie Brooks' music then this is the CD to buy first.

I was always on the lookout for a definitive Ry Cooder Album - one that captures the essence of his style. This record is just that. Great production, evocative, it takes you from the everglades to downtown New Orleans whilst passing through Texas on the way. A beautiful journey that has to be experienced in a particular mood. It is, in short, the perfect complement to Bop till you drop. Some of the songs are a little indulgent but so is a bottle of fine red wine. A must for anyone into slide guitar and the possibilities.

I was very fortunate to have seen Rory live during his heyday and (as another reviewer has stated) I often felt he was far better live than in the studio and this album demonstrates that brilliance.
This album is worth the price for the brilliant "Walk on hot coals" alone, great song and what a fantastic guitar solo !
If you love full throttle blues, then get this album.

It's the 3rd, 5th or 9th Symphony (Beethoven obviously), it's the Mozart or Verdi Requiem, it's 'Siegfried', 'The Great C Major', 'The Dream of Gerontius', 'The Saint Matthew Passion', 'Jonah's Mission', Bruckner's 8th, 'The Rite Of Spring'........of rock. Any one of them would be the equivalent in force of character*.
And no I don't mean it's as good as any of them but I do mean that it's as great as they are in rock terms. As protagonist, Jack Bruce is the human race individualized. He is the first and last man on earth. He is Job, Mani, and Zarathustra. His song is a great humanist assertion or a great song of gnostic defiance or both.
You say it's just a blues with two chords? No, it's the blues transcended. It's the apotheosis ... Read More:

This was an album I desperately wanted to like but, being honest, left me a little cold. Despite being a fan of the individual talents, and their place in rock history is assured, the album has dated extremely badly, seems wildly self indulgent, and seems to drift all over the place. Yes, the era just predates me, so I wasn't around at the time, and I am sure this album has the same nostalgic feel to many that later eras have for me, but this seems to me like a jam album, where the guys have turned up with a few ideas, and jammed them out. Maybe thats the idea...
Worth a listen to appreciate a little rock history, but if you aren't an ardent fan, best to walk on by....
I bought this album on the strength on the one song i heard on the radio " I Cant Make You Love Me" and was suprised to find so many other gems on this album. I really didnt know alot about Bonnie Raitt but i am glad that i do now, she has a really sweet voice and the songs are just beautifull they really seem to hit me where i am at in my life at this present moment.

Being a great fan of Robert Johnson I own most of his cds and this one has without doubt the best sound quality of them all. My only reservation is that unlike some of the other cds it does not include all of his tracks which is a pity. For true Robert Johnson fans I would recommend "The Complete Recordings", the sound quality is not quite as good but it is more comprehensive and in my opinion represents better value.
Release Date December 03, 2007
This is a great album, my favourite. Let's Go to Tahiti, Friday,Thirteen Days, Don't Cry Sister, Sensitive Kind. This was made for CD, 15 years to early. Okay I like JJ,but this to me is the peak. And Eric Clapton hasn't covered a single track of this!
Release Date July 01, 1990
This was the first Tull album I heard; As i played flute someone thought that I may like it; Witches Promise was the chosen track and I was instantly hooked. That remains one of my all time favourite Tull tracks.
I was fortunate to see them live twice and they were even better than I expected; Ian Anderson was a mainc genius who could not only write great songs but was a fantastic musician and performer.
The 2 live tracks are amazing and amongst the most played out of the entire collection of Tull albums I have.
The other tracks are shorter and some are more folk like in sound. Up The 'Pool is great fun and some of the accoustic giutar playing is first class. The whole album comes together brillaintly and if you havent heard it or of Jethro Tull then it is a must ... Read More:
