Fandango! is notable among ZZ Top's albums for being their first (and by far the best) release including live material - the original LP had one live side and one studio side. The live side is fab, especially the two short songs that open it, Thunderbird and a scorching Jailhouse Rock, while Backdoor Medley is good but its length probably seemed more justified at the actual concert.
The studio material is typical of 70s ZZ Top and with the sole exception of the rather lame Mexican Blackbird it's all very good (delicate slow blues Bluejean Blues, funky rockers Balinese and Nasty Dogs & Funky Kings) to great (awesome boogie on Tush, more funky rock on Heard It On The X).
The remastering has greatly improved the ... Read More:

Joe has matured with age like a fine wine to produce a corker of an album that resonates with pure soul. Some of the songs would be plain and boring if sung by any other singer but this man makes each a classic.
Release Date October 22, 1999
An essential album for any lovers of classic rock music who don't own any of Free's actual studio albums. This is a good selection of songs from the band's history - extremely enjoyable!
Release Date September 06, 1999
I used to own this album 8 years ago but I lost it. I just bought it again and I still love this album. There are so many kinds of music that I out grew after I left my 20's. But this album is so original and full of emotion and creativity. It still rocks and there is nothing like it.

It`s so horrible to think of Lynyrd Skynyrd recording a Christmas album like they did in 2000. Ronnie, Allen and Steve must have been spinning in their graves. The fact is, and I saw the reformed 1991-version and bought the albums from that time too, that in 1977 these guys were dangerously close to world domination...they had just released the incredible "Street Survivors", which suggested the addition of Steve Gaines would add a another dimension, and also their world tour had left fans worldwide gasping for more. The band consumed so many drugs and so much alcohol that it`s a wonder they ever made it to the stage, but they did, and they were on cracking form at the Fox Theatre back in `76.
I`m not absolutely sure about the set-list ... Read More:

You all know the score by now - fewer and fewer people are challenging the opinion that Rory Gallagher was perhaps the finest, most fiery and most consistent guitarist of the last 50 years and, thank God, he left lots and lots of proof.
Just before going on stage for the Isle of Wight set, Taste had their gear stolen and so had to play on borrowed kit - and just look what they achieved. Rory manages to produce bursts of speed and fire on the old Strat without ever entering the dreaded realms of widdly woo inhabited by such as Van Halen, Satriani and the Watch-Me brigade.
What's Going on?, the opener for On the Boards (buy NOW), just steams and roars with the whole band's interlocked ability. If you didn't see Taste in those glorious ... Read More:

How come all this extra stuff has sat in boxes in some
darkened cupboard for the last 35 years ??? It's not as though the original LP had no spare space. Well anyone thinking of dabbling with drugs should listen to this. I'm not an advocate of putting out anything and everything that an artist ever recorded but this 2CD set is a real education. There is everything here from truely stellar brilliance to
slow and dull mediocrity ; fortunately much more of the former. All these
years later we are reminded of what a talent PFK was but how he
squandered his talents. A very tragic tale.

Bridge of Sighs is probably Robin Trower's most consistent album originally released in '74. Blues, funk and a heavy Hendrix influence featuring James Dewars rich vocals. The bonus tracks are from BBC sessions from John Peel and have livened the studio versions from this album and the later release For Earth Below. Well worth updating previous CD releases and a good place to start for the uninitiated.

More AFBF material - this time from British concerts
Anyone interested in Blues will have to buy this one. I wasn't aware that the 1964 show was recorded in the UK although I suspected it might have been when a Sonny Boy clip surfaced on YouTube. The cheering that greets Howlin Wolf is extremely heartwarming - he then proceeds to lay down Smokestack Lightnin - unavailable anywhere else on film as far as I know - and Don't Laugh at Me. Lightnin Hopkins is in there too while Sugar Pie Desanto does a couple of spirited performances
Also from 1964 (but not part of the AFBF series) are two songs apiece from Muddy Waters and Sister Rosetta Tharpe in the Blues and Gospel Caravan from a now-closed railway station in Manchester. Muddy's performances ... Read More:
