This album has some wonderful moments - it is what you'd expect and more from David and his crew. Aldrich does a wonderful job on guitars and I really do not understand what some of the more negative people were expecting. This is a Whitesnake album in every sense of the word, without too much influence from the comtemporary rock scene (and better for it). More albums please Mr. Coverdale...

Up until fairly recently, the only Lynyrd Skynyrd songs I knew were Freebird and Sweet Home Alabama. However, after hearing some of their other songs played on Planet Rock, I purchased this album.
It's bowled me over. Yes, it could be better packaged, but the music is terrific. Wonderful southern ,laid back, witty southern rock.

I know this is supposed to be one of Dylan's best albums... but I don't think it is. Since I was born in 1978, I can't really comment on how revolutionary this record was, and I can't comment on Dylan's abandonment of folk for the new rock n' roll sound. Unlike Dylan's audience in 1965, I am unhampered by any anti rock n' roll prejudices, but I'm afraid that for me it's just a fact that Dylan's early folk albums are better than his mid 60s rock n' roll albums. I say it's a fact, but of course you know that I mean it's just my opinion. It's not a case of whether he betrayed his fans, folk music or the civil rights movement. It's just that I don't respond emotionally to the tunes on Highway 61 Revisited. I've always thought that Like A Rolling Stone was bland, ... Read More:

my personal Zep favourite....and then you get the rest of this excellent double album for free, what a bargain!!! I bought the original vinyl on the day of release and even now, over 30 years on, I still pick it out of the rack (now on cd) anytime I require a blast of musical genius.

After the slightly disappointing "Mercenary" album this is a wellcome return to form for the good Doctor. This album sees him offering a spicey gumbo of pop, jazz, soul, funk, blues and a hint of voodoo. If you liked the "Creole moon" album then you'll love this one.Like most of his albums these days there is a sprinkling of guest stars like Eric Clapton,Willie Nelson and jazz trumpeter Terence Blanchard to add to the mix.The album title gives you a clue as to the basis of the songs for this album with most of them penned by Mac himself. The pick of the album is in fact the title track "The city that..." which is a slow voodoish blues with Dr john digging deep for some real feeling and "Dream warrior" is a voodoish funk with a nice tight rhythm.Songs like "Landgrab" and "My people need.." are about New Orleans ... "this will do until some more enterprising company puts it out as a digipak with the pop-up figures restored" SAID BEN absolutely right.
A powerful, moving piece by Tull. The opener A NEW DAY YESTERDAY and WE USED TO KNOW are great songs about fading or lost love because all the mix of emotions are there----KEANE et al in the current "scene" take note.
FOR A THOUSAND MOTHERS is a classic statement on the the bitter truths of intergenerational/parental relationships.

I have a few of Eric Clapton's albums plus a few he's recorded in other bands and 'Slowhand' typifies how frustrating he is. Rightly regarded as one of the greatest rock guitarists, he never seems to produce an album about which you can say, 'That's the one.' Instead, what you get are a handful of brilliant gems and an equal measure of forgettable, if competent, workouts.
The three heavyweight tracks appear at the front of the album. 'Cocaine' has never been one of my favourite songs, but he does deliver it with impressive force. 'Wonderful Tonight' worked its way into the public consciousness over many years and is the kind of tender song that's difficult to pull off without sounding watery. 'Lay Down Sally' deserves more recognition, in my opinion. The playing on this is one of his more inspired acts. ... Read More:

Like the last reviewer, and many, many others, The Blues Brothers was a film I first watched when I was about 10 and it introduced me to a whole new world of music.
This soundtrack was the first record I ever owned and it is where I first heard a lot of artists that I may otherwise never of heard of, since I had only really listened to pop and ska before.
This is a great collection and younger people especially will find it it very educational. If you enjoy the soundtrack it would also be a good idea to look up some of the other artists featured in the film but not on the soundtrack, like Sam and Dave and John Lee Hooker.
A fun film and a fun soundtrack, try the other Blues Brothers recordings too, you won't regret it!

This is the album which finally made Dylan accesible to the masses.Which includes me-I'd only heard of Dylan via Peter Paul & Mary and Johnny Cash but a matter of months later came the single Subterranean Homesick Blues and the first electric versions via the Byrds and the Turtles.
Dylan had gone electric after hearing House of the Rising Sun by the Animals.
His next albums were 100% per cent solid Good Time Music.
By the time of psychedelia Dylan was setting the scenes for his next music-country and more acoustic.
His first albums were only accesible if you had got into his music from this one.
And that in a nutshell is how it worked in this country
