Despite the usual struggle for Blues at populist award ceremonies this album picked up 2 Grammys when it was first released in 1992. And after listening to it, frankly that is no surprise.
You don't even have to be a Blues fan to enjoy this sensational album. It is a must have for everyone. Clapton manages to combine good vocals, excellent guitar playing, raw passion and, not to mention, catchy tunes all into one album.

I picked this album up awhile ago, noticing Andy's name from playing with Clapton, and i have to say im glad i did. The whole album is surperb easy listening, not technical, just straight up easy listening. Theres not a bad song on the album. It neither sounds like Clapton or Rodger Waters just something quite different.I highly recommend it!

A welcome budget price collection by one of the most charismatic and influential blues artists of all time. Many of Wolf's best known numbers are here, commencing with 'How Many More Years' from his first session in 1951 in Sam Phillips' Memphis studio, and continuing through the 1954 to 1965 period with Chess Records. The material is licensed from MCA, and therefore in excellent sound quality, with stereo mixes being used on some of the later dates. Just reading the titles reveals that most of the essential tracks are present, including the ones that were to feature strongly in the white blues boom of the 1960s: 'The Little Red Rooster', 'Spoonful', 'Killing Floor', and the inevitable 'Smokestack Lightnin''.

This new expanded version of TSRTS suffers from the same problem as the original release (fairly obviously, given that it comes from the same source material), namely that the first disk is utterly brilliant and the second is mediocre at best. It's fairly easy to get carried away about Led Zeppelin (as a lot of fans do), but let's not forget that as well as some of the greatest rock music ever they also recorded some fairly pitiful stuff too (The Crudge, Hats off to Harper, Walter's Walk...).
This document of their Houses of the Holy tour was originally released between the albums Physical Graffiti and Presence, as a necessity, to fill the void left by Robert Plant's serious injury which prevented them touring. Over time the band have expressed ... Read More:
With the very successful writing team of Ken Howard and Alan Blaikley providing the words and - most importantly - the hooks (except for "Hold Tight") the-quintet-with-the-very-long-name (nicknames actually) was really big on the mid-60's British charts. From 1965 to 1969, it was difficult to listen to British radio without hearing one of their singles.
Behind the big arrangements, the individual member's contributions were hard to assess. Therefore, the band members were a bit faceless.
However, to the public, the songs spoke for themselves and sold by the truckload. These songs have managed to stay imbedded in the minds of everybody who heard them at the time.
Although some of the songs are rather silly, there are also very good songs like ... Read More:

This is one great album that needs to be played loud.Jimi's guitar wails through all the songs and notably "Machine Gun" in which he brings forth the Vietnam War fought by the USA in Asia in in visual perspective but created by sounds from his unbelievable guitar-work.You can almost see the plane shot down by the machine gun as the pilot labours to keep the plane airborne as the engines have been hit.The engine finally dies as it hisses lifelessly despite the frantic efforts of the pilot to kick it back to life!Wow!What guitar work!No mortal man has ever played a guitar to the proficiency of the Gods as did Jimi Hendrix back then with mediocre technology. His guitar wizardly is unequally to date.In this record he showed the world that it was possible to be gentle and still ... Read More:

Fresh Cream as well as being the debut album of powerhouse blues trio, Cream, was arguably the album which gave birth to all those blues/rock bands featuring guitar jamming soloists. It's just that Cream hit on the idea first, and probably in their short lifespan did it better than most.
Although Eric Clapton was already making a name for himself in Britain's underground scene with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, it wasn't until he joined Cream later that year (1966) that he was given a complete free rein. On 'Fresh Cream' Clapton is at his fiery best, and not on any of the other subsequent Cream or solo albums did he ever sound this good in the studio. Nowhere is this better demonstrated than on Willie Dixon's 'Spoonful'. His solo builds slowly into a real hypnotic crescendo, ... Read More:

Apparently created in less than 3 weeks, from start to finish, this is a great album and possibly Skynyrd's best. They worked 16-hour days during that time, their first break in touring for months. However, before it was released, guitarist Ed King had left (or been pushed - depending on who you listen to!), unwilling to put up with the workload any more. However, the superb Artimus Pyle is on drums, making this the strongest lineup to date. I'm amazed how the arrangement on songs like "I'm a Country Boy" and "On the Hunt" are so good - the three guitars all intertwining in that superb Skynyrd fashion - riffs, solos, slide - it's all there. There's really not a bad track on this album - even the back-to-roots "Made in the Shade" is a great foot-tapper - I defy you to listen to that song without ... Read More:

I love Elkie Brooks' music and this certainly captures some of her finer moments.
But a 'Best Of' compilation can only cherry pick the tracks that have come from a long line of albums, which in themselves show the style of the singer at that time.
So whilst these tracks are great to listen to, do yourself a favour and pick a couple of her other albums *first* - then come back to this one to get all the great tracks in one place, but having the background to really appreciate them.
