This is a great CD if you want a good dose of high-end Brass Band music and playing.

"Contest Music" by Heaton is a work originally rejected for use at the National Brass Band Championships in 1973 as it was too far ahead of its time. It was used some years later and has become an iconic piece of brass band writing. This is music written for a top level contest which is highly musical rather than a technical excercise (although it is a technically difficult piece!). Incredible playing of this piece by a band on top form.

"Royal Parks" - George Lloyd. Very tuneful and some great sounds. The trade mark "Black Dyke Sound" really shows in the second movement - listen for the pedal notes of BBb Bass legend Derek Jackson. ... Read More:

Brass To the Fore

Having recently purchased this album on the strength of knowing a couple of tracks, I have to say that I was delighted with what was on it. Having played in a Silver Band for the past number of years, it is a style of music which greatly appeals to me.

This CD has something for everybody - from film (Star Wars theme, Floral Dance - as featured in the 1996 hit Brassed Off), Gospel (Crimond - aka The Lord's My Shepherd, and Abide With Me) and ragtime (The Entertainer) to name but a few.

If you've never listened to Brass music before, you could do worse than listen to this offering

White Christmas With Grimethorpe

A great collection of Christmas tunes, no 'overkill' on the arrangements. The only thing I would point out is that, there are very few hymns on this cd, Silent Night, Adeste Fideles, etc are all absent. Other than that a 'must have' cd for Yule Time.

I received this CD this morning, and I have to say that I am pleased with my purchase. As a long-time fan of brass & silver bands, I was only too happy to add to my collection with this CD. The triple CD means there should be something in it for everyone. Admittedly, there were some pieces I had never heard tell of before, such as the Black and White Rag, but that's the best way to add to your music knowledge. My particular favourite was Love Changes Everything, from Aspects of Love, but there are so many pieces on the CDs that I enjoy listening to. If you're anything like me, you will not be disappointed by this CD.
