From the first time i saw them on top of the pops as a 13 year old singing What differance does it make i was hooked. I was the lonely youth, the outsider, no-one else liked them but that was the best thing cause they were all mine, and i loved 'em and still do now.
My favourite album was the debut album then Meat is murder, i had 'em all the same day they were released.There will never be another band like them and i am proud to say i was there.

When he wrote and recorded the first track on this album, Jason Pierce was touched by genius. It is stunningly beautiful and is the best thing he has ever written. The rest of the album is great but the title track is the one.

Music from the heart - somehting we hear little of these days. I guess thats why I love this album so much - each song is very meaningful, with excellent lyrics, and a good variety of sounds too, so it doesn't become bland and boring.
I've listened to alot of Travis, and is their is most mature album yet. Writing to reach you is an excellent way to start the album, and other brilliant songs include As you are, the feel good Driftwood (nice video too!) Why does it always rain on me, and Shes so strange.
A classic album not to be missed!

"Alone with Everybody" first soloalbum? The follow up to "Urban Hymns"?
Isn't "Forth" in fact The Verve's follow up to 1995's "A northern Soul"?

Because of Richard Ashcroft's nervousness and reluctance to make "Urban Hymns" his first solo album it is sometimes a bit hard to tell what is verve album and what is solo-albums...

"A northern soul" is a verve album. The original four participated in songwriting and production of the album. The same goes for new album "Forth". But "Urban Hymns" started of with only 3 members; Richard, Simon Jones and drummer Peter Salisbury. And was to be the first Richard solo album. Richard wrote the songs.

New Order is a rather mysterious band in many ways. It has pre-history and continuing influence by groups such as Kraftwerk, Eno and the Velvet Underground, and various other experimental electronic-based European groups. It also has a strong shadow cast over it from Joy Division, an ironic name for a group whose leader (also the founder of New Order) Ian Curtis committed suicide. Enigmatic to the last, New Order members (who drift in and out of other band arrangements; the latest perhaps being Bernard Sumner's work with Electronic) tend to be less than specific when talking with the press, and their albums are conspicuously devoid of liner notes.

Welcome To The North

Okay, they have what may be the most boring name in all of rock-dom. But the Music do better in their sophomore album than in their self-titled debut, tightening up their music and losing the Led Zepplin-wannabe sound in favor of more dancerock. "Welcome to the North" is a bombastic rocker with heart.

"Where I'm from/Is not who, who I am," is the rather generic opener to the title track, a roaring rocker that blossoms from a slow riff. Well, it's not really about the songwriting -- it's actually about how it's sung. Lead singer Robert Harvey really stretches his voice as he shouts "Welcome to the NOOORTTH!", sounding as if he's gesturing at a panoramic view of north Britain. I've done the same as many others, started at Final Straw and worked backwards. - None will dissapoint. As you would expect this one is a little more rough around the edges but is probably better for it. Recommended.

I used to have an art teacher who sported a magnificent mustache and extremely long "luxurious" hair. In order to create a stimulating working environment in his art classes, he used to put this album on. After two or three lessons I was hooked. I had to get my own copy. The rest, as they sometimes say, is history. That was seven years ago, when I was twelve or thirteen, and I think all of the music I've since took an interest in can in some way be traced back to this album. This was the "Big Bang" of my obsession with music. If it weren't for Ok Computer, I'd refer to it as my "favourite album of all time".

Silence Is Easy

"Silence is Easy" was the second album from young English band "Starsailor". The band has often been compared to both Coldplay and Radiohead, and given there is an unmistakeably British sound to their music. Personally I feel that a comparison with Suede and Brett Anderson would be more obvious; especially on the ballads.

The album starts off very strongly with 4 great songs. The optimistic up-beat "Music was Saved" is the perfect opener - strange that the song was not picked as a single. Two short, but strong ballads follow. "Fidelity" and the beatiful waltzy "Some of Us".

Then comes the Phil Spector produced hit-single and title-track "Silence is Easy".

Dear Catastrophe Waitress

I bought this on the strength of reviews, recommendations and hearing a couple of tracks on the radio. Otherwise, I know nothing about Belle and Sebastian, so I view this album on its own merits. It's one of those albums with which you can play spot the reference. The title track's orchestral flourishes and vocal style are, for example, straight out of Love's 'Forever Changes'. 'I'm A Cuckoo' not only mentions Thin Lizzy, but has a style reminiscent of 'The Boys Are Back In Town'. 'Wrapped Up In Books' borrows the melody from an old Cliff Richard hit, 'In The Country'. 'Piazza' could be based on any chirpy 1960s folk song.

Fortunately, the album is blessed with a diverse range of lovely arrangements, some strong melodies and vivid lyrics. The best material, however, tends to come in the first half of the album ... Read More:
