The Now collection of CD compilations has set a trend. We see, now more then ever, lots of different compilation cd's, all for different sort of things. But, even with so much competition, the Now series remain on top. Past albums remain a great way of getting back in touch and reminiscing over old songs and thinking "oh my god, I remember this..." and Now 40 is great for doing this.

It contains lots of old tunes that you can giggle about listening to years ago, laugh about, and remember with an odd sense of pride (or more likely embarrassment!) that you knew all the words to them. I've shelled out so much money on OCS products, mostly chart CDs, imports, rare editions, limited editions etc...

...only to be faced with a 'Collections' CD just a few years after a Greatest Hits CD and with no reason or rhyme behind which songs have been picked.

This CD is nothing but a selfish money spinner from my favourite band ever and it makes me feel a bit ashamed and a lot let down to see it. The band know their money and fame comes from their die hard fans so to release this to earn a bit of cash from a casual listener...

Ugh.

A great compilation for all music lovers out there. Massive million sellers like Shaggy, Hear'Say and erm, Bob the Builder are in the same cd as Feeder, nobody else but Now would do it

We start off with the cheese, it's always there but the painful S Club 7 just had to be skipped, it sounds very much as if Jo is having her tonsils removed. However it mixes in with great dance tracks, including the under-sold "Chillin" by Modjo a fantastic record for those who haven't found it. We mix it in with laid back pop including the great summery vibe of Emma Bunton and Kylie Minogue.

CD2 is not quite so good but it has a great R'N B dancevibe to it. Tracks like Papa Roach seem a little out of place on a now CD but Now is moving on. ... Read More:

Although Radiohead's monster single, Creep, was tearing up the charts in the early 1990s, the album from which it was taken, PABLO HONEY, was an average album from what appeared to be an average band. Like so many other bands with a couple of hits under their belt, Radiohead could have released a couple more mediocre records in the span of a few years and generally fade from public consciousness. Hootie and the Blowfish and Seven Mary 3 are good examples of this phenomena. I actually wrote Radiohead off and never bothered to listen to any of the followups until about 2001, when I realised there was so much more to Radiohead than just "Creep" (one of my least favorite songs by them, incidentally).

Mothers Heaven

This is every bit as good as 'Southside' - I am writing a review some ten years after buying it, but it has stood the test of time (even though I once took *only this* with me on a trip to the Isle of Barra, by mistake - such a long time with only one piece of music would normally have put me off for life!). Bluesy and ballsy, and - though not wishing to belittle their achivements - generally better than their more recent albums.

There are few performers that NEED a best of collection more than Julian Cope. His hit and miss approach to songwriting has made for some very frustrating albums.
Here the two Teardrop Explodes albums and his first seven solo albums are cherry picked and the result is a superlative and varied compilation. You get the hits, you get gems like "The Greatness and Perfection of Love" and "Safesurfer" and you get no failures.
Well selected by Julian Cope (though I might not have put "Reynard the Fox" on here given the choice) at this price this is a steal for anybody who likes there pop with a bit of imagination and wit...

I've Been Expecting You

...as such, good in parts. I must admit that I am not the biggest fan of Robbie's music, and I hate Mr. Williams himself. However I would definitely say that this is his best album. It contains some good songs, the best being Strong, the opening track, which is simply outstanding. Sadly the rest of the album can't live with it. She's The One is nice, No Regrets and Phoenix From The Flame bearable, but Millenium has aged very badly and in fact after only three or four listens the James Bond-nicked riff and nonsensical lyrics become just plain annoying.

I wouldn't really recommend buying this album, get the Strong single instead.
