I was a big echobelly fan in the 90's (still am now) and this album is a great reminder of just how good echobelly where at writing guitar anthem songs. Their songwriting and playing has matured a lot since their ego album but thats not to say the songs sound dated or dont measure up to todays crop of indie kids. I had most of there stuff on vynl and wanted a convenient way of listening to their past hits and this album was the solution. Its a really good album and after playing it to freinds they cant believe they missed this band when they were realeasing such great songs.

I bought this CD a while back and for some reason didn't play it much; maybe it was the title, maybe the cover, or maybe just the right album at the wrong time. Who can tell?
However, during a massive clearout of old CDs I came across this and put it on. I was amazed. How did I miss this? Definitely a keeper!

This is the extraordinary debut album of A Girl Called Eddy, brimming with romance, hypnotic beauty and languid melodies. A Girl Called Eddy is the stage name of Erin Moran - "just a nickname that stuck" she says - who was born in Neptune, New Jersey, USA. The tracks were mostly recorded in a wet and windy winter in Sheffield, north England, with the help of ex-Pulp guitarist Richard Hawley as a producer, and released through the independent label Anti Records.
The result is 51 minutes to drown yourself in - its all-absorbing warmth, wistful and melancholic lyrics, feelings drifting between deep nostalgia, heartache and romance. Most of the tracks are mellow, cocooned in cotton wool and spare arrangements, with singing that is most reminiscent ... Read More:

It was always going to be difficult to follow up a pair of Brit Award winners and with hindsight, this album was never really destined for commercial success. I wouldn't want to be a Manic Street Preacher though, it seems no matter what direction they choose people will complain - aggressively, about which way they go. I remember on the run up to the album's release and all the talk of a "return to our roots" which would please just about any Manics fan. I don't consider it a return to their roots. There's no Motown Junk or Stay Beautiful on here, the band have matured.
Know Your Enemy has a more political feel than many of the band's other albums. This is documented by songs like Baby Elian, Let Robeson Sing and Freedom Of Speech Won't Feed My Children. ... Read More:

An American released EP from the Verve before they sold out & became mainstream, this brings together 2 of the band's early pre-album singles and their corresponding B-sides. Gravity Grave is a groove-worked piece of ambience, She's A Superstar a sprawl of Nick McCabe's whirring psychedelic guitar landscape,(accompanied with its unedited B-side Feel), both of these have been edited to bite-size proportions for those who find the originals too self-indulgent. A Man Called Sun and Endless Life only serve to prove that the Verve's ideas and soundscapes from the early Nineties stretch far beyond the "safety" and mainstream narrow-mindedness of the vastly overrated Urban Hymns. Indeed it has been quoted in the band biography Star Sail that the Richard Ashcroft of 1992 would never ... Read More:

A great compilation for all music lovers out there. Massive million sellers like Shaggy, Hear'Say and erm, Bob the Builder are in the same cd as Feeder, nobody else but Now would do it
We start off with the cheese, it's always there but the painful S Club 7 just had to be skipped, it sounds very much as if Jo is having her tonsils removed. However it mixes in with great dance tracks, including the under-sold "Chillin" by Modjo a fantastic record for those who haven't found it. We mix it in with laid back pop including the great summery vibe of Emma Bunton and Kylie Minogue.
CD2 is not quite so good but it has a great R'N B dancevibe to it. Tracks like Papa Roach seem a little out of place on a now CD but Now is moving on. The cool overtunes of Jakatta are irresistiblely ... Read More:

I'm a massive Verve fan but even I think this is a waste. As the band disbanded in 1999, their record companny is now trying to fleece money out of their fans. Although video's like History, Bittersweet symphoney, The drugs don't work and Lucky man are occasionally aired on music channels, the only good thing about this dvd is that the other videos are featured and these hardly ever come on tv. I'm only giving this 3 stars because of the lack of content. There could have included some live tracks or a full live gig which would have made it more appealing because I never got chance to see them live in their prime as I was only a kid by the time they disbanded. Buy it if your a fan or new to the band but don't expect much for your money.

I remember being utterly amazed the first time I heard this album. To me the Delays sound is as unique as the Beach Boys must have been in the 60s. The melodies they continue to churn out year upon year is literally unrivalled. Blistering pop that will leave you begging for more! Listen to now if you're slightly bored of the depressing indie songs of recent years!!! This 1 is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
