It's a real grower, this album. When I first listened to it, I couldn't see what the fuss was about, really. It sounded just like another chill-out CD, albeit better than the others. But after repeated listens, I started to appreciate how accomplished it was. The mix is so seamless that you can't work out where one track stops and another begins. Basically, if this is a chill-out CD, then it pretty much redefines the whole genre. This is not about loosely stringing together some nice tunes; this is about sounds, tempo, and rhythm. Normally with a review, I'd point out the good tracks, but in this case it's pretty much irrelevant here. The tunes picked by K&D merely help them achieve the tempo and rhythm they want. Each tune has been masterfully ... Read More:

firstly i should probably say what kinda music i like: most things!
and this is one of those rare albums which is amazing - every track is wonderful. this album, like moon safari, does not disappoint....and i dont really see a massive change in styles - its different to moon safari but its not so different that you would only like moon safari OR talkie walkie.
i only got it this morning and ive now listened to it through 2 times and it is amazing. it has the beauty of cinematic orchestra but with air's unique electronica feel - a calm and masterful piece of work.

The last album that I got this addicted to was 'Mile Davis - Kind of Blue'. Its not that good but get this on yer ipod for the beach this summer.
If you like "Supernature", "Black Cherry", and "Seventh Tree", have "Felt Montain". Obviously it's the weakest out of the 4, though really relaxing and entres you into a total state of calm.

This is like nothing else I've heard, even from FSOL. I must admit I wondered what on earth I'd bought when I first heard it, but once I'd got to the end I got it. Swirls of ambient noise give way to some of the most beautiful electronic melodies you can imagine.
It's got loads in common with classical music, you have refrains that pop in and out at various points throughout the album, in fact they even sample Pachabel's 'Canon in D' in 'Domain'. This isn't a pop record. You can't just stick it on whilst you wander round the house and expect to like it. You have to actually sit down and listen to it as a whole to appreciate just how amazing it is.
Highly recommended, but the recommendation comes with a warning to expect the unexpected!

I'm a pretty big fan of Moby but I have never really got on with this album. It's almost as if he picked his favourite part of Play (the end Gospel bit) and stayed there. The result is an album that doesn't go anywhere and has none of the dynamism of earlier work. No matter how many times I listen I find it depressing and hard to enjoy. A real shame.
Release Date July 12, 1999
Although the criticism that this is dinner party music seems fair on first inspection, this album boasts some truly fantastic lyrics and vocals that put trip hop bands like Massive Attack in the shade. "Part of the Process" is melancholy and uplifting at the same time, "Over and Over" is one of the sweetest short tracks I have ever heard, while "Diggin' A Watery Grave" proves that music doesn't always need lyrics to be affective. Atmospheric, sad, funny in places, and ultimately beautiful, it combines electronica, reggae, hip hop, pop, and classical music into a seamless and truly unique mixture. It is only 'dinner party music' if you don't actually listen to it.

I've given this 3 stars out of respect for all musicians who are brave enough to think outside the box and try something a bit different. Each to their own, but I also can't get my head round the number of 5 star reviews. I grade music on the basis of how it moves me. Does it lift me out of my favourite armchair and take me to another place? I'm happy to let any type of music do the job. Faust, Can, Tangerine Dream, Radiohead, Lambchop all provide me with the vehicle to leave my wife and kids for a while and return a hour or so later, refreshed and ready to do the washing up. I've not heard anything else by Boards Of Canada but 'The Campfire Headphase' sounds like a new band who have just got together and aren't sure where they're going. They need some guidence. A first rate producer ... Read More:
