A dark debut that is both memorable and stylish. The trip-hop feel sounds dated now but this was an accomplished debut with a rack of strong songs - "Tape Loop", "Trigger Hippie" and "Never An Easy Way" being the strongest examples.
An interesting set of sounds and musical landscape supports Skye Edwards' smooth vocals.

After two very different versions of The Isness were released accidentally, and many, many recordings from the Isness sessions went unreleased, it was inevitable that there'd be some kind of 'definitive' version of the album. And whilst The Otherness still lacks the full uncut Galaxial Pharmaceutical and one minute funk jam Yes My Brother, it covers everything else released.
Opening with the Abbey Road versions of Elysian Feels and Mello Hippo that graced the mispressed versions of The Isness, the record is off to a good start - both versions being superior to their Isness counterparts.
