Lifeline

Speaking as someone who hails Neal Morse's "Sola Scriptura" as the best album of this century to date, I have to report my disappointment at the follow-up, "Lifeline". Ok, the "best album of the century" may be a tough act to follow and it`s perhaps not a big surprise that "Lifeline" is not as good, but the disappointment stems mainly from the fact that a lot of this album sounds like material that Neal has written before but just wasn't good enough to put on other albums.

"Lifeline" lacks the exuberance of its predecessor, it seems to lack inspiration almost, sounding for the most part like a formulaic and flat repeat of earlier work, only without the zest and melodic invention that characterises much of that.

King of Fools

This is the first mainstream album from delirious? and they gave a wonderful offering first time. This is where classics begin, such as Deeper and History Maker. White Ribbon Day is one of the most beautiful songs ever written, and deals with a serious issue christians face today about how God can be loving when there is so much pain in the world. Even if you aren't a christian you can still enjoy this album. It is an excellent worship album and also an excellent CD in its own right.

amazing how great moments someone can bring to us. Aled Jones arrived this morning, in a cd format, with some others. i was preparing myself to start working (painting) and put his cd. than, i realized, that i simply couldn't work. i had to stop. his voice, the sound, the purity, fidelity embraces u and puts u in a high trip. don't even think u can do whatever u want while Aled is singing. and after that u'll put again... just to make sure. i know now what to give to my best friends birthdays... a must!!... hear and u'll c... :)

Wide Eyed and Mystified

I heard this band yesterday for the first time live as a support group for Chris Tomlin in Belfast. I can honestly say that I have never heard of them but since hearing them last night I now own all three of their CDs. The group were fantastic - a real mix of slow ballads and rock songs which are catchy and sure to appeal to younger christians.

The newest of their CDs "Wide Eyed and Mystified" is absolutely excellent. Their songs are catchy but have a serious message that they convey exceptionally well. Well worth a look at this band

Before Everything and After

I'm a pretty full-on MxPx fan, having at least heard if not owning all of their albums. Something good about MxPx is that, depending on how you like your punk music, they have an album to match your tastes. For example if you like your punk old-school, west coast fast as heck, shouty vocals and lo-fi sound guitars, then check out Pokinatcha, or brilliant albums like Life In General, Let It Happen or The Renaissance EP.

If you like things a little poppier, a bigger sound, with (I have to say) much improved vocals (possibly the weakest part of MxPx's sound - although the lyrics have always been incredible), then check out Slowly Going the way of the Buffalo, The Everpassing Moment (THE Mxpx album to own), or this offering.

Wooooow. When I bought this album it was probably the heaviest CD I owned. I bought it after hearing tracks off the album on the yahoo launchCAST service (uk.launch.yahoo.com). I thought it was good but when I bought it I wasn't aware it was such a solid album. I'll go through the tracks...

Not What You See - 94% Awesome song with heavy catchy guitar.

All Alone - 92% Another great song, chilling piano noted at the start merge into a guitar laden chorus.

Better For You - 90% Good song, cathy chorus.

This album marks the debut of another outstanding artist on the Rocketown Records label, fast becoming my favorite label. Ginny Owens, Dove award winner for new artist of the year, is able to borrow the style of modern women singers, but make it her own at the same time. Her writing is also amazing. She wrote or co-wrote all 10 of the new songs on the CD, and her passion to live for God comes through.

"I Wanna Be Moved" and "If You Want Me To" are prayers of commitment. "Without Condition" and "Someone Searching" are about the love and peace that can be found in Jesus. "I Am Nothing" is a wonderful reworking or the first part of I Corinthians 13. The album ends with "Own Me," a simple yet moving prayer of surrender to God.

Sal Solo was once lead singer , main songwriter and producer for Classix Nouveaux , an 80,s band of predictably preposterous haircuts and preening pomposity whose biggest hit "Is it A Dream" was ludicrously enjoyable. By 1983 Sal who eschewed the bouffant based ephemera of that era by having a shaved head was disillusioned with the music industry and so took himself off to a retreat at San Damiano in Northern Italy where he underwent a religious conversion .
