The St Philips Boys Choir - better know these days as 'Libera' - have a unique sound. Inspired by the genius of Robert Prizeman, these seven to fourteen year olds have the ability to reduce the strongest of upper lips to jelly with a single chord. Play this CD and you will tap your foot, sing along or weep whenever they wish you to. As an example, in consecutive tracks, you will hear the most moving version of 'Abide With Me' followed immediately by the most stirring version of 'Jerusalem'. The use of a 'close-mike' with Liam's breathtaking voice makes Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Close Every Door' my favourite track but it's a close call. Each and every track is a masterpiece which leave the listener begging for more. Buy this CD and I guarantee ... Read More:

Considering Classic FM's skill at producing CDs for almost every occasion, it's no surprise to see this timely release of Christmas songs for the 2007 festivities.
The packaging is of the usual high quality expected of Classic FM, the 2 CDs are in a slim case and wrapped nicely in a card sleeve with (a picture of) a festive red bow on the front which begs to be picked up and bought as a Christmas present. The selection of tracks is well chosen, giving a balanced mix of carols, traditional and modern music.
The carols are all good recordings of popular choices from the back catalogues of The Kings College Choir and the Choir of Westminster Abbey, traditionally sung, with organ accompaniment to some of them. ... Read More:

A little jewel of a film! This movie was released with not much fanfare in 1983, but has developed a loyal following in the U.S. due to it's repeated airing on cable television. Such is it's cult following, that American cable network TBS regularly hosts a "Christmas Story Marathon" during which the film is shown for 24 hours straight, from Christmas Eve to Christmas Day! I moved to Ireland from America 6 years ago, and have searched in vain for this film to appear on the Christmas schedule of RTE, BBC, Sky or any of the other 500 channels on my system. Sadly "A Christmas Story" is virtually unheard of on this side of the Atlantic, and I soon realised that I would probably never see it again, unless I bought it myself.

Realy good album of christmas carols, different because its in a traditional folk style rather than choral.
I really enjoy it.

Once again EMI has dug deep into its archive and plucked out 21 silly Christmas tracks which were almost certainly regularly played on BBC Radio's "Childrens' Favourites" in the 1950s and 60s, and "Junior Choice" in the early 70s.
Actually this release is a "revised repeat" of a CD bearing the same title from 1992; eleven of the tracks are repeated, and among the ten to be added (at the expense of the likes of Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole etc) are two each from Pinky & Perky, The Chipmunks, and Rolf Harris (but not "Seven White Boomers").
So this is a collection that is both juvenile and obscure. Depending upon taste the best numbers are from Alma Cogan, and her 50s rival Eve Boswell, from Freddie "Parrot Face" Davies ("I'm A Little ... Read More:

As befits anything given the nod of approval by legendary Pope of Trash John Waters, and as anyone who owns some of his movie soundtracks will expect, this collection is suitably bizarre, bewildering and at times outrageous - and therefore the perfect antidote to traditional Xmas collections (begone, Slade and Wizzard!) All the tracks have a certain mad charm, from inspired covers of classics such as Tiny Tim's Antony-and-the-Johnsons-esque Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Alvin and the Chipmunks' annoying Sleigh Ride, to bizarre original ditties such as the Santa-abusing Xmas-hating Here Comes Fatty Claus and the funky I Wish You a Merry Christmas (from the original artist behind the Locomotion, no less!). Two favourites stood out for me - ... Read More:
