A little gem of a cd; there are quite a few songs that I had never heard before which makes it a change from the normal Christmas carol compilations - though for all I know they may be Celtic (or Irish) standards.
The instrumentation, as one might expect from the title, includes harps, pipes whistles and guitars as well as strings and is very nicely done; as someone else has remarked the effect is otherworldly in parts, and in others I find it attractively 'ancient'.
I would thoroughly recommend this cd as something to listen to in it's own right or as background music whilst putting the tree up, which I suspect is what most people would want it for.
An absolute snip at the price too !!

I appreciate the fact that most people would prefere original choir versions of carols, but I am now in my early teens and these electronic disco versions really get you in the Christmas mood. Ideal for children and anyone who really likes to spice up Christmas.

Yes, the Slade hit was great in it's time, and then David Essex, John Lennon and everyone else all followed with Christmas songs that we are now bombarded with in every shopping centre from November right through to Dec 24th.
In the search for something different to play at Christmas, I came back to Donny Osmond; and I'm glad that I did. When you're all partied out to "Merry Christmas Everybody" and can't face another "War is Over" rendition, pop this on and enjoy some really rather "playable" songs with a gentle festive touch. Don't worry about the quality of the vocals as it all washes over you very nicely. Don't look too deeply for Christian meaning either - the Osmond family's religious committment is know to everyone, and ... Read More:

It's amazing what happens when artists (re-)connect with things that are really meaningful to them. With "Mi Tierra" Gloria got back to the Cuban side of her Hispanic heritage and produced a milestone album. With "Abriendo Puertas" (opening doors) she mines the huge wealth of Colombian music to produce a veritable treasure trove.
The songs are based on different local styles, as the liner notes usefully explain. There's an amazing variety of rhythms - all irresistible. The melodies are catchy and Gloria delivers them with her customary warmth and assurance. This is an album with no truly dud tracks. Admittednly Mas Alla veers a bit too close to sugarville for my taste, but there are plenty of tracks that knock me out every time I hear ... Read More:

I've been listening to this every Christmas for the last eighteen years and haven't got tired of it yet. The bouncy, folky style of performing carols is much more to my taste than the more solemn choral recording of carols that you generally get.
This album has a nice mixture of carols, some well-known, some less well-known, some merry and some quiet, but all beautifully performed. I have yet to find another christmas collection that I like better than this one. If this doesn't put you in the mood for Christmas, nothing will.

I love this, its my favorite holiday album. This album is modern yet you still feel there are traditional elements in this album. I bought this album a year ago and i'm glad i did because it still sounds just as fresh.
