Not the best from Miss Houston but never the less its still a gr8t album. If ur a Whitney fan then it is essential. This is her most recent release. Best tracks include One Wish, Cantigue De Noel, Deck the Halls, Silent night and Who would imagine a king, which is from the 1996 Preacher's Wife soundtrack album. Overall, this is a good album for the holidays (xmas) and her smooth voice does the songs justice. 4/5.

The Best Christmas Album In The World ... Ever!

This is a pretty decent stab at a Xmas party album but suffers from the usual faults ie Because the record company behind it can't obtain permission to use all the tracks they might want, you end up with this compromise. Unfortunately in this instance they've made matters worse by substituting inferior versions of some tracks for the real thing(surely no one actually believes "Fairytale of Newyork" is enhanced by Ronan Keating's contributions).

There is a fairly simple solution:Buy this album AND "Chritmas Hits"(a three CD set that can be got pretty cheaply), although there is quite a bit of over-lap, the two discs together should provide all the material you need to put together a tailor-made great xmas party album.

Vaughan Williams - Hodie; Fantasia on Christmas Carols

This is a great CD. I had always thought that Hodie, despite great moments of inspiration (such as the marvellously inspiriting conclusion)was a rather inferior score to earlier choral scores like Sancta Civitas and Dona Nobis Pacem, but Hilary Davan Wetton's new Naxos (super-budget) version has forced me to revise my earlier view. I still believe that the beautiful Sancta Civitas is Vaughan Williams's choral masterpiece ( although Dona Nobis Pacem and the late, neglected Epithalamion are, respectively, works of great power and beauty) but Hodie comes across as a much greater score in this recording. Wonderful concert. The songs and singing arrangements just get better and better as the concert goes along.
The concert was attended by such well-known people as Ex Pres Bush, Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Arnold Schna....,Gene Kelly.
Concert was in LA and a lot of "american" favorites (such a musical from movies) were selected, some to honor the crowd such as "Singing in the Rain" and "My Way".
Received 3 curtain calls. Pavarotti's Ava Maria inspired the crowd to stand up cheer. Same for his Nessun Dorma!
Orchestra LA Philharmonic also was featured playing some pieces with just the orchestra.
Excellent, wonderful music.

The Snowman absolutely makes Christmas for me. The bittersweet story always reminds me that nothing is forever; we should cherish the time we have.

Looking in the Children's Xmas songs category, I noticed that this CD was the top result. I'm so happy to see that so many others appreciate this work as much as I do.

Being one of the most frequently performed and recorded operas, La Traviata could well feature several times in the collections of opera enthusiasts. This version of it came into my collection recently, at an absurdly cheap price, and I have happily listed to it many times.

In charge is veteran conductor Tullio Serafin, who leads off with a First Act Prelude that is the best I have ever heard. Victoria de los Angeles is soon heard amid the partying in Act One.
