The other reviews here show that this is obviously a Marmite set - you either love it or you hate it. Me, I love it I treasure it and play it often. In such circumstances another review may not be of that much help to an undecided prospective purchaser because you can't know in advance whose taste you share, but for what it's worth:
The treasure of this set for me is the B Minor Mass. It has been described as the greatest work of art in any medium ever and while that may be a rather overblown claim it isn't wholly indefensible. Gardiner's interpretation does it proud. It has intensity, intellectual weight, a deep respect for the work and, above all, radiant beauty. I love it. I also have the Andrew Parrott recording (now ... Read More:

This is now the 11th Christmas that this music has been part of the tradition of my holiday season, and although I've acquired numerous other holiday music collections over the years, this far surpasses any other collection that I own. It is difficult to do justice to this music by describing it in mere words. The collection ranges from the 14th to the 16th Century, and is unlike any other collection of Christmas music available. It evokes the true spirit of the Christmas season, is enlightening, inspirational, and transports the listener far from the trite elements of the 'modern' holiday season. No other choral group can compare to the Harry Christophers The Sixteen (named such as the group consists of four treble/mean, four ... Read More:

I agree with "Wylie" Stone (on amazon.com) that "not everything will suit" the listener's taste, but I stand by Nigel Schofield's right to place every track on this 4-CD set and I commend him for doing so.
This boxed set has an undeservedly, if understandably, low profile due to its specialised material and the capital outlay involved; yet I personally would have paid that amount for the first 6-8 tracks that sprang out from my first "skim" listening, let alone all the other gems. For me the older, sometimes raucous-sounding, source-related material does not rankle (as it might with those weaned on Steeleye's 'All Around My Hat', for example).
I already had some of the stuff by Peter Bellamy, the Coppers and the Watersons, ... Read More:

Prutsman is a fine pianist and performs this work with finesse . His technique can meet all the challenges of the concerto and he is ably supported by the R S N O with Alsop in control. The R S N O shows itself to be as good as many of the top orchestras and their response to the other pieces shows skill and a strong feeling for these works. Marin Alsop obviously has a great sense of what Barber wanted and she is a sure hand on the tiller . Highly recommended.

Errr, is it me but is this really the same crew that Did the awesome "Since I Left You"? I was sent the link to Avalanches "Ski Surfin" by Amazon as I'd previously bought Avalanches "Since I left you" - however the CD arrived entitled THE Avalanches a 1960's Beach Boy's/The Shadows ensemble - Gutted !!

I have listened to this CD on and off since it was released 7 years ago and, even though the music may appear repetitive, I have not tired of it. I think this is because, like great liturgical music (admittedly all the work is not liturgical), it is ecstatically and transcendentally focused. For me, this music is winter music, it gathers one into oneself, but at the same time, it draws one out of oneself. And, that is what great music does. My impression though is that the music is not sung and recorded as sublimely as some of the other works in this Naxos series - I am thinking of the Britten and the Howells CDs, which are beautiful. And yet, it is well worth the buy!
