I borrowed this CD on a whim recently, and have discovered just how much fun most of it is. But let me warn you, this is like nothing else you've ever heard before.
This is a rock and roll orchestra Christmas CD. Don't know what I mean? Well, many of these tracks feature an orchestra backing up electric guitar, keyboard, and drums. And these aren't your parents' arrangements, either. The best example is "Christmas Eve/Sarjevo 12/24" which gives "Carol of the Bells" a heavy rock arrangement. And it is absolutely fun.
The disc is about half instrumental, and those are the best tracks by far. Another highlight is "A Mad Russian's Christmas" which includes themes from "The Nutcracker." But they aren't all hard rock ... Read More:

Third Day has released a great Christmas project. As with the first two "Offerings" CD's, this one mixes both live tracks and studio recordings. The live tracks feature very little talking, but the audience is obviously present. They hold up well to repeated listening.
Third Day has taken nine familiar Christmas carols and arranged them to fit their Southern Rock style. If this scares you, don't let it. Each song is still instantly recognizable, and I had no problem singing along on the first listen. While it sounds slightly different, it felt like Christmas to me. Of course, part of making it a Third Day song is lead singer Mac Powell's trademark deep voice.
"What Child is this?" is easily one of my favorite Christmas carols and their ... Read More:

I don't believe nobody has bothered to review this beautiful piece of music! I love Christmas records, they've always been a big part of my life, but Cliff's Christmas records are, along with Queen's "Thank God It's Christmas" and the Bing Crosby classic "White Christmas" (beautifully covered on this CD)... my very, very FAVES! You can feel the glow of a warm fire, the snow start to fall and taste the mince pies in the spine-tingling loveliness of Cliff's voice. Okay, shall I do it song by song? Here goes! (I won't give each song marks out of 10 as they are all 100%!) "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"...this one just drives along, it's fun, it's a Christmasy classic with a great beat, and great vocals from Cliff. (best rendition I ever heard of this ... This is the first album produced by Ten Years After and I still feel it is one of their best. Great sound, including a brilliant version of Willie Dixon's "Spoonfull" and of course some superb guitar playing by Alvin Lee. For those Rock enthusiasts who do not own any of Ten Years After's albums, take it from me, you are really missing out and if you are thinking of starting a collection, then this is the one to start with because it is their debut album and like me you will probably want to collect them all in order.

The other reviews here show that this is obviously a Marmite set - you either love it or you hate it. Me, I love it I treasure it and play it often. In such circumstances another review may not be of that much help to an undecided prospective purchaser because you can't know in advance whose taste you share, but for what it's worth:
The treasure of this set for me is the B Minor Mass. It has been described as the greatest work of art in any medium ever and while that may be a rather overblown claim it isn't wholly indefensible. Gardiner's interpretation does it proud. It has intensity, intellectual weight, a deep respect for the work and, above all, radiant beauty. I love it. I also have the Andrew Parrott recording (now available very reasonably ... Read More:

What a disaster! This album is just plain poor. All of the songs which have been swiped from original artists are not fitting and provide terror to the ears. John Lennon would turn in his grave if he heard Happy Xmas(the idols version)and Rockin' around the Christmas Tree sounds both drawn out, boring and is just not up to the standards of "Pop Idols". "All I want for Christmas" and "Santa Claus is comming to Town" are just bad efforts. The originals of these songs are joyful, relaxing and festive. I am sure many people would disagree with my judgement, but can anyone seriously listen to this cd and hear anything but a money making scam. There was nothing wrong with the original tracks so why try and improve them.

This Christmas country classic has been enhanced by the addition of three tracks. Everything Emmylou touches turns to gold. She brings the same elegance and authenticity to Christmas that she always has to the varied genres her career encompassed.
The hopeful and uptempo Christmas Time's A Coming opens the album, the familiar Away In A Manger with its beautiful mandolin is straightforward but touching, whilst Angel Eyes is a sad slow ballad. Her voice really soars on The First Noel, while Little Drummer Boy gets a sensitive, graceful treatment. Perhaps it's childhood nostalgia, but her renditions of The First Noel and Star Of Bethlehem really stirred my soul.
Most of her best work has always been infused with a spiritual quality, and this is perfectly ... Read More:
