1981 - a very fertile year for rock! Following their last album "Difficult to Cure" came as a
relief and a revelation to Rainbow fans, having taken on the brilliant young vocalist Joe
Lynn Turner this album rates as my favourite post - "Rising" effort by the band - sound
quality, song quality, and the addition of Bob Rondinelli on drums, Ritchie sounds very very
pleased indeed with his "new" band! - even elaborating big-time on his classical aspirations
in the shape of an amazing tribute to Van Beethoven on the title track to the tune of
the "Ninth" symphony. This will interest Prog fans I'm sure, but there are some great songs
that accompany this little masterpiece!

Often ignored or maligned, 'Johnny The Fox' suffers only from having to follow an album widely considered Lizzy's best. I'm intrigued to see one reviewer saying this is rawer than 'Jailbreak.' In my opinion, there are more rough edges on that album and more bounce in the production of this one, a refinement that was to continue on subsequent releases.
'Johnny' is a confident, archetypal opening and 'Rocky' maintains the momentum. 'Don't Believe A Word' is one of my favourite Lizzy tracks, topped by a spiralling guitar solo. The title track is dirty and funky, allowing Phil Lynott to go all dramatic. 'Massacre' is one of Lynott's more intense folk tales. The two mellow tracks, 'Borderline' and 'Sweet Marie' are exquisite, the latter shimmering. ... Read More:

Deep Purple's third album brings a close to their first incarnation. While this line-up isn't as highly-regarded as the one that follows, it still impresses. Rod Evans wasn't quite up to Ian Gillan's standard, but his voice suited the band's style. Where they are lacking is in that dynamism and flamboyance that characterises later recordings. 'Chasing Shadows,' with its exotic rhythm, gets the album off to a good start, while 'Blind' features a great baroque performance on harpsichord by Jon Lord. Unfortunately, the quality is uneven from here on. Much of the album's worth hinges on their take on T.S. Eliot's 'cruellest month,' 'April.' It opens with some Gothic organ and a mildly haunting acoustic guitar line, but the strings in the middle section are ... Read More:

'Phenomenon' was vital in UFO's switch from their early spacey stuff to the hard rock that broke them in the UK. The hard-driving, zigzagging guitar figure makes 'Oh My' a great start to the album and the playing of Michael Schenker is wonderful throughout, exciting at its best. The Quo-like 'Doctor Doctor' became a breakthrough hit and is possibly only bettered here by the white-hot 'Rock Bottom'. The latter track, however, also highlights how ordinary most of the rest of the songs are. The attempts at thoughtful, acoustic-tinged songs, 'Crystal Light' and 'Time On My Hands' are professionally-performed and pretty dull. 'Too Young To Know' is tame, 'Built For Comfort' is a tired retread of an old blues song which sounded a lot better in Howlin' Wolf's hands. ... Read More:

True, there is a fair amount of tosh and drivel on this album - "I love you like sin but I wont be your pigeon" anyone?
However . . . . . .and its a big however . . . . . Dont Fear The Reaper. Worth paying £3 or £4 of anyones cash for that track alone. Throw in ETI, with a bassline that'll have you moving whether you want to or not and Vera Gemini, with guest vocals by Patti Smith (no really) and just skip the rubbish. It's what that button was invented for.

So the real question was could Deep Purple really hack it. Okay they released 'Perfect Strangers' and it was good, they played at the return of the Knebworth Fair and despite the appalling conditions the show was fantastic. But now comes the difficult second album, just like any new band, the question is can they follow up initial success, with something of equal or better quality or was it just an exercise in topping up the pension fund?
Well no worries on that score this album is sheer unadulterated, classic Deep Purple, great lyrics, good riffs and superb musicianship. Standout track for me is 'Mitzi Dupri' but there are a fist full of great tracks on this album.
I would highly recommend this to any Deep Purple fan and any fan of British classic hard rock ... Read More:

This album is a tour de force from start to finish and includes some fantastic tracks such as The Quiet Room, Nurse Rozetta and How You Gonna See Me Now. Before I bought this I thought there was no way that Welcome to My Nightmare could be surpassed. It's a close run thing, but From The Inside is even better. When I listened to this for the first time my initial reaction was "wow". It really is that good. Very highly recommended - it's an absolute masterpiece!

As I remember, this album came out at the start of the summer school holidays of 1972, so didn't cause the classroom revolution that it might have. (We'd have to wait for 'The Wall' for that.) A 13-year-old at the time, I bought the cassette version, because all I had was a mono Philips cassette 'corder'. Even at its maximum volume of '5', I could barely hear it the other side of my bedroom, so my personal rebellion went largely unnoticed.
I never saw Alice in concert, but you could tell from the start that this was theatre rock par excellence. For me, Alice sits somewhere between Arthur Brown (both his Crazy World and Kingdom Come incarnations) and the markedly inferior Alex Harvey Band. Allegedly the Alice Cooper band could barely play its instruments before coming together for whichever of ... Read More:

Destroyer by kiss is their fourth studio album and was released in 1976 and was the album that launched them omwards although many argue that it was the previous years release of their live album called alive that did that and no matter what they were onto a winner regardless of what this sounded like, fortunately this is a good album with some strong songs but let down with some obvious enough filler and a muddy production that while not constant is most hurtful in the great track 'God of thunder'.
The album isnt as glammy as they would get and isnt as heavy as they could be but has a good time feel about it,although as per usual the lousy lyrics that appear at times can make or break how you feel about kiss so you have to see how that makes you feel.
Kiss here dont feel as much a novelty act as i thought ... Read More:

This album contains all Alice Cooper's big hits from the 1970s. If you were around then, they won't need any introduction to you, and if you liked them you will enjoy this collection.
My only grumble is that the sound quality is quite poor - very muffled in places. I have a vinyl version of this album (bought when it first came out) which I have recently transferred to a home-made CD. I wasn't happy with the sound quality and I thought it because it came from an old LP, So, I bought this CD, but the quality of this bought CD is not noticeably better.
