Having been blown away by the first three albums, unlike the reviewer above I was terribly disappointed with 'Ghost of a Rose'. There are some great moments on it, but the melodies are blander and weaker over all and the tracks less infectious than on previous (and subsequent) albums. Several of the tracks almost get somewhere great but not quite - which is a shame and a bit frustrating as I can see that this album could have been great.
Having said that, the title track is perfect (and better than the curiously re-recorded version on 'Beyond The Sunset') and 'Cartouche' and 'Loreley' are certainly worth buying the album for if nothing else.
I still enjoy it and play it, but it's always an 'almost' great album...

Without doubt the classiest heavy metal album of all time. Musically this leaves all other heavy metal albums for dead ( Tyranny & Mutation & BOC excepted). Me262, Dominance & Submission, Subhuman, Flaming Telepaths and Astronomy are absolute gems. Exciting and dynamic, Buck Dharma,s guitar licks are absolutely amazing. One of several great albums released in 74. Buy it.

Maybe Aerosmith were a bit premature in releasing a Greatest Hits in 1980 but I found this record disappointing.

For a Greatest Hits I found a lot of the tracks pretty average and I wouldn't be tempted to buy any of their studio albums as a result of listening to this.

Track One "Dream On" is by far the highlight for me. I didn't find the rest of the others very remarkable. A very dodgy cover of The Beatles "Come together" was a low point on the album.

Maybe Aerosmith just aren't my thing!

Let's be honest...this is never a "great" album. It's ok, and there is no shortage of hooks, but the lyrics are so bad they really put you off. Come on - "She's personal property", "make love like a man, i'm a man" - for christ's sake. At least AC/DC can do misogny/lewdness with humour or tongue in cheek as well as better tunes. That said there are a couple of good tracks on here - White Lighting, Tonight, Tear it Down. Worth a listen but please, it's not a great album.

As a fairly big Saxon fan, i looked forward to listening to this album, as i hear a lot of people on forums and such speak about it in rather harsh tones. To be honest, I love this album. It doesn't have the quality of the previous three, but theres a certain old school metal, out and out rockin' feel to this album that is, if not as "pure" as on previous albums, still very much there. Of course Saxon, with this album, take things in a slightly different direction, with some songs (such as the title track) seemingly having a more Iron Maiden like melodic metal feel rather than the hard rock-on-speed of the previous three albums. This album in my opinion is the best album from this great rock band.I have 14 Nazareth cds in my collection and while there all great and different Hair Of The Dog was the bench mark album from them.Every track is fantastic and the album rocks along at a tremendous pace.The remastering gives excellent sound quality and has been very well done.you must play this cd loud and just listen it will blow you away.A must buy for any music lover who likes to here good heavy rock being played by a great band.Highly recommend this album;

As a teenager in the 70's, my favourites were Yes, Led Zeppelin and Tangerine Dream. I only had the ubiquitous 'Made In Japan' on a cassette from a mate (replaced by the first CD pressing and subsequently the latest remastered double CD) and I never felt any inclination to buy (or even get illegal tapes) of any more, although I did eventually buy 'Made In Europe' in a sale. 'Made In Japan', supposedly best live album of the time was pretty good in the excitement stakes but always lost out in my mind to the subtlety and variations of Yessongs. So, 30+ years later, I have some disposable income and having enjoyed the MIJ remaster I came across the Paris 75 double CD, and remembering the excitement of 'Burn' from my long lost Made In ... The Magician's Birthday

This album has always been underrated. The album peaked at 28 in the uk and 31 in Billboard. It has a fine balance between rock and soft rock. This is due to Ken Hensley who is responsible for most songs. The song Rain is an example of a fine tune. It is also heard on his solo album Proud words on a dusty shelf (1973). Ken is still recording great albums. When i first finished listening the songs i said WOW..this is great. I played the album at least a hundred times.
Spider woman could have been a hit single but in my view but they released sweet Lorraine and that was no sucess. Blind eye is my favorite song. It is a dark song with great lyrics. Overall the album feels "dark" and the tension is pushing it to a great level. The album ends with the great song "The magicians birthday". ... Read More:

Fallen Angel

As an almost life long fan of Uriah heep, I think that (to be as fair as possible) it's best to review this album track by track. So here goes:-
1. Woman of the Night - Not bad .. can hear some distinct 'Uriah' influence here, rocks along Ok.
2.Falling in Love - Great Song (if you liked the Bay City Rollers!]
3. One More Night - Shakin' Stevens would have been proud of this (is that him doin' the singin'?).
4. Put your Lovin on Me - with the Brilliant Chorus Line 'I Love You'.. about as original as a good fart in the morning.
5. Come Back To me - Sorry Lee , I think you're a great chap but..... AAAARGH!!
6. What d'ya Say - Hello, Ken's got some new toys.. better put them back in the box and go back to sleep..!

Kiss are a great band. I never really like their old studio recordings but this live cd is one of the best rock cds i own! Full of good riffs, guitar solos and interaction with the audience, this is always exciting to listen to. Essential to a rock fan.
