all you fans of metallica, don't come looking here for a thrash metal album...

a couple of years ago i bought the garage inc album from metallica which has to be my faveourite of theirs. After swiftly realising it was an album of covers, i researched the artists of the originals and started listening to diamond head.

This was the album i bought. and may i just say, it is a thing of beauty. One of my favourite albums. But please for the love of god dont buy it thinking that it will be a thrash/speed metal noise bomb. Its not.

I have rated this album for a very long time. In fact I bought the LP when it came out in '71. I cannot elaborate any further than the previous reviewers on how good it is, but was it the office junior at 'Remasters R Us' who did 'Guts' the first track? On the original LP it starts with a lead guitar intro, then joined by the drums and bass, increasing in sound level as it does so. On this remaster its a very loud intro, then when the drums and bass come in its like it hits an automatic recording level max. This quietens the lead guitar making the combined sound on the same sound level of the intro, and muffled. There is also some hiss on the start of track 4 N.d.p.w. I was actually at the concert with Mike Harding as compere. I used to go to a lot of BBC concerts in those days. This one goes down as the best concert I ever attended. I was not a big Deep Purple fan and I only reluctantly decided to go at the last minute, BBC concert tickets were free, but I am so glad I made the effort. When the band kicked off with Highway Star I was just amazed at the power and the energy that they put accross. The whole audience were out of their seats and dancing in the aisles. Ritchie Blackmore's guitar work was brilliant, he was playing it behind his head and with his teeth. It was almost Hendrix like. the album before the chemical the line up from album 2 and now including former maiden guitarist adrian smith. the album hits hard mostley but tracks like omega and arc of space ruin it. disc2 is interesting, b sides, demos it just lacks live songs. the cover, well. i like it. its funny. but it cant be public friendly given that it was banned in america! 3 and a 1/2 stars

Stranger in Us All

First time I heard the album, it didn't really grab me. But I have dusted it off again recently and listened to it 3 times in the last 2 days, and I moved from 3 stars to 5. The album really rocks! Doogie White is 10X better than GB and much grittier than JLT. On some of the tracks he sounds as good as RJD... I think on Still I'm Sad he sounds better than the already awesome version on the various live albums from the RJD years. Hall of the Mountain King is also great. The guitar playing is superb throughout - varying from classic heavy Blackmore riffs to some wonderful delicate melodies.

Overall, in the league with Rising and LLRR, and much better than Down to Earth or Bent out of Shape.

Straight Between The Eyes

While there are a few decent tracks on this album it is generally poor pop/rock. One reviewer states for Purple and Rainbow fans, I am sorry but I totally disagree. This is only for fans of pop/rock not decent rock/metal. Decent Rainbow albums Rainbow, Rising, Long Live Rock and Roll, On stage.

Venoms finest moment is here on this fine re-issue of a true classic black metal album. the singer is not good, the guitar is rubbish and the bass is awful but its venom, true metal. easily the best black metal album ever, no competition............CLASS

Crazy Nights

Crazy Nights is a brilliant album. After getting the Greatest hits album I decided they were great but after listening to this I decided they were fantastic.
The introduction of Bruce Kulick into Kiss a few years earlier was an excellent decision as there are many good guitar solos on this album.
Crazy Crazy Nights is the best song on the album with great vocals, lyrics and solo. I'll Fight Hell To Hold You is another great song. My Way uses a lot of synthesizer and sounds very cheesy and 80s but is still great nonetheless. Hell Or High Water has Gene Simmons on vocals and has many powerful, meaningful lyrics. Reason To Live and Turn On The Night are the other songs that stand out but all in all it's a really great album and I highly recommend it.
