This gig was originally released in Japan in 1977 as the "Last Concert in Japan". It suffered from poor editing & sound. Now it has been given a full make-over with the audio being digitally re-mixed and the other half of the set restored, making it the complete gig. Indeed there is a substantial improvement in clarity on playing the discs however, the quality of the performance remains the same.
Anyone who knows the history of Tommy Bolin's lifestyle in this period of time will be aware that most of his performances were lacklustre- and this one is no exception, so don't expect a 'Blackmore' standard performance as Bolin plays the bare minimum required especially on Purples back catologue. (Music From) the Elder has divided KISS fans for a quarter of a century. Some dispise the records as being silly, misguided or just plain awful. Others see it as KISS showing a more serious side to complement their simplistic bombast of the 1970s, while other (like myself) see a bit of both.

The album has numerous moments of brilliance. Under the Rose is perhaps their best kept secret, dark, compelling, mystical, Gene sings the song with real force. A complete departure from anything the band had ever done before, it was a magnificent song. Starkers in Tokyo

The idea of an "unplugged" Whitesnake album is appealing, and "Starkers In Tokyo" does feature a lovely rendition of the classic Deep Purple-ballad "Soldier Of Fortune".

But most of the songs don't really work too well in this setting. Coverdale's vocals are excellent, but Adrian Vandenberg's lone guitar just doesn't provide the musical backing that these songs need, and the extremely lean arrangement doesn't suit songs like "Too Many Tears" and "Here I Go Again".

Vandenberg picks more than he strums, and a rhythm guitar or two (and preferably an acoustic bass as well) would have worked wonders.

There are some good moments on "Starkers In Tokyo", but this is mainly an album for serious Coverdale-fans. Casual listeners probably won't ... Read More:

ok - i love budgie, and the first four albums are some of the greatest rock albums ever made. my gripes here are - firstly, the extras. aint there no out-takes and demos from around this time that could have been included? instead of re-makes of classic songs from this album which are, frankly, inferior? there must be something in the archives?

secondly, the re-mastering. i was expecting great things. but whilst the sound is nice and fat, it seems to me that its nowhere near as punchy as it could have been. in fact, if you listen to this and the vinyl back to back theres really not that much difference. this is evident by the recording levels which are not very loud at all. i understand that the band had a hand in the re-mastering? hey burke, what happened? ... Lock Up the Wolves

The day was August 12th 2004. The location was the Birmingham Carling Acadamy. The band was Dio. I was at the front of the stage barely two metres away from the man himself. After two solid hours of non-stop classics from almost all of his albums plus the hummbling expearience of touching the hand of God, there was no doubt left in my mind. Ronnie James Dio is the king, the massiah and the ultimate saviour of Heavy Metal Rock n' Roll.
I bought Lock up the Wolves for two main reasons. One was for the title track, truely one of the greatest Dio tracks (Yes that includes any song from Holy Diver and the Last in Line) And the second reason was actually because the cover art is the coolest (The cover art for Angry Machines is second in my poll)

Whiskey In The Jar

I know some people who think LINE AND DANGEROUS was quite early for Thin Lizzy but this compiles them from the early seventies. It it clear to hear on this CD the influences of blues and folk, as on tracks such as Whiskey in the Jar and Broken Dreams. There is one track that is basically a plesent folk waltz, which just illustrates what a wide range of material they have performed. Retern of the Farmer's Son is great and it contains one of their unbeievebly corny but somehow catchy one-note -well almost- riffs, as used later in songs such as Emerald.

Instead of the four that they were later, here thay were just a mere three. Even full of great tracks I think it is unfortunate that only one track -the Rocker- made Live and Dangerous. I suppost that the title track is the one ... Read More:

This is a totally amazing offering from Iron Maiden, the kings of modern British Heavy Metal, and is definetly the best live album i have ever heard. Every song, even ones i didn't particularly like when they were released, sounds absolutely amazing helped by maiden's excellent musicianship and a dedicated crowd of 80,000 all who knew every word to every song. This album only serves to remind me what an excellent live band maiden are, not only due to their excellent musical talent but also down to the unique way they manage to stir up and excite any crowd. Highlights include "Dream of mirrors", "Iron Maiden", "Evil men can do" and "Fear of the dark." This is a great album.Alice Cooper has made quite a few albums that could be classed as great but this is him(and his band)at his very peak.There are many tracks that stnd out including 'Hello Hooray','No More Mister Nice Guy','Billion Dollar Babies' and the fantastic 'Elected'.

I can honestly say that this album sounds as good today as it did when it was originally released.A true classic,brilliantly produced by Bob Ezrin and absolutely essential.
