This is undoubtedly one of the best Lizzy albums and indeed that last great one they did, after this we only saw/heard glimpses of Lynott's greatness. He was my hero growing up and this album was one of the reasons but it also shows the signs of the cracks that were starting to appear. Track selection is one bone of contention for me. I would've left off Sarah, it is a solo track not a Lizzy track, Get Out Of Here is filler and S&M is an interesting idea but not an album track and doesn't fit in here. Instead of these I would've added in Parisienne Walkways,
A Night In The Life Of Blues Singer, Dear Miss Lonely Hearts (the rocked up band version they occasionally played live), and last but not least I would add in King's Call this song ... Read More:

There's some great songs like "Breadfan", "In for the Kill" and of course the four songs from "Bandolier" album: "Breaking All the House Rules", "I AIn't no Mountain", "I Can't See My Feelings", and "Napoleon Bona parts I & II". Good work!

This is an album much maligned by many of the rainbow purists who cant get over the departure of Dio but depart he did going on to do a stellar job with sabbath. Blackmore was wanting to go for a more commercial approch at this time wanting to hear his songs on the jukebox and stunned the rock world when he hired former marbles singer Graham Bonnet. Now you will probably read by many here that he was a bit of a misfit and was no replacement for Dio but truth be told the guy had an amazing vocal range, actually greater than Dio's, capable of pulling off the most extraordinary key changes and hitting notes such as F,G's in full voice! Bonnet's dynamic approch and macho tone makes this album a must have. He really shines on all the songs contained here and I wish he stayed ... Read More:

the best record saxon ever made, this is the band at their hungry best, 747 still gives me shivers down my spine just as it did when i first heard it, everytime i heard it live and every time someone played it at the pub disco on a saturday night. heavy metal at its best ... bap shoo ap ... and the bands played on,(saxon ozzy motorhead etc) still relevant , still a metal standard, dont just sit there do yourself a favour and buy this cd , coz if you see me riding by - do not stop me do not try !!!

How anyone, even die-hard Zeppelin fans, can give this four or even five stars is way beyond my comprehension. The circumstances surrounding the band during its recording are well-documented (Page and Bonzo strung out, Plant injured then stricken with death of his son) leaving JPJ as the main contributor here.

Zeppelin's bassist does a good production job, particularly on the atmospheric opener In The Evening and the slow-blues closer I'm Gonna Crawl, but overall this is the sound of a band whose best days were well behind them, fighting to remain relevant in a world of New Wave and post-punk.

Page's playing is all over the place. The mighty riff for In The Evening is an exception, instead we are left with the appalling country & western schtick ... Read More:

I now own all of Maidens albums. Over the last few weeks i have listened to them all, and this one has to be their best. I really love that raw early sound which they had but appeared to lose once bruce took over. dont get me wrong, bruce did a fantastic job and i really think the number of the beast is his best record with the band. but there is something very special about the sound the band had on the first two albums. something that has never been repeated. When the band released 'no prayer for the dying' in 1990 they were trying to recapture that sound they had around the time of killers. they never recaptured that great sound. Long Live Rock 'n' Roll

WOW what an album. This was my first proper introduction to the mighty works of Mr Blackmore esq. I had heard 'Since You've Been Gone' on TOTP and decided to buy it as a single and then to buy an album, fortunately I picked up this one. To say I received a bit of a shock is an understatement, I was blown away and I still am when I listen to it now. Mr Blackmore is generally renouned for not putting up with anything other than the best when it come to side men and this can clearly be heard on this album. Though he did in fact return to the studio and re-record all the bass tracks himself, having been unhappy with the origonals.

The selection of songs is strong and diverse, the contrast in styles from 'Gates of Babylon' to 'Rainbow Eyes' is a true testament to the abilities of Mr Blackmore. ... Read More:

The Very Best of Nazareth

Nazareth like ther bands before Uriah Heep etc only found themselves the butt of many jokes by the UK press over so many comparisons with other legendary acts before they hit the scene but where warmly appreciated in the US and rest of Europe but this decent best of highlights the emotive tones in Dan McCafferty alcohol nicotened soaked vocals which swings from the rawk to the sensitive as highlighted on bad bad boy and love hurts combined with the effortless guitarsmanship from Jimmy Murrison, steady basslines from Pete Agnew and the effective drumming from the late sweet keeps the band in check which is no surprise they had celebrity fans in Axl Rose who covered hair of the dog for the patchy spaghetti incident album.

Hearing Aerosmith's 'Live Bootleg' just after release put me off them for nearly thirty years. It would have been a different story had I heard this album first. After two highly creditable albums, 'Toys In The Attic' marked the moment when they established their identity. It rocks as hard, but has an extra swagger. They have a simple, abrasive approach, but the tracks featured here are superbly crafted. The rapid-fire title track sounds like their signature tune. 'Uncle Salty' is wicked and 'Adam's Apple' classy. 'Walk This Way' pre-dates rap by three years and has never been surpassed by anything in that genre. 'Big Ten Inch Record,' a cover, provides a light diversion. 'Sweet Emotion' is awesome: it has an almost psychedelic opening and a riff that Jimmy Page missed.
