So the real question was could Deep Purple really hack it. Okay they released 'Perfect Strangers' and it was good, they played at the return of the Knebworth Fair and despite the appalling conditions the show was fantastic. But now comes the difficult second album, just like any new band, the question is can they follow up initial success, with something of equal or better quality or was it just an exercise in topping up the pension fund?
Well no worries on that score this album is sheer unadulterated, classic Deep Purple, great lyrics, good riffs and superb musicianship. Standout track for me is 'Mitzi Dupri' but there are a fist full of great tracks on this album.
I would highly recommend this to any Deep Purple ... Read More:

If you're looking for a good overview of Alice Cooper's incrediable music, this is the perfect CD.
Here you will find the legendary hits, "Poison", "Schools Out" etc, cult classics and a generous selection of album tracks.
This is a great album which lives up to it's name, it's suitable for hardcore Alice fans, newbies and those people who just like decent rock music.

Sandwiched between the fifties-influenced and bluesy "In Rock" and the "heavy rock" classic "Machine Head", "Fireball" is most people's third choice in the magnificent early 70s triptych from Deep Purple. Granted there are not the anthems like "Highway Star", "Child In Time", "Smoke On The Water" or "Speed King" on this collection, but there's still some great hard rock in tracks like "The Mule", the title track, "No One Came" and the iconic single "Strange Kind Of Woman". "Anyone's Daughter" is a bizarre trip into country rock that no doubt appalled the band's fans at the time ! However, overall this is an immaculately remastered piece of work, full of trademark Purple drums, driving organ, rumbling bass and cosmic guitar. Oh and I nearly forgot, ... Read More:

Ronnie James Dio and Ritchie from Deep Purple has gotta be good and it is very very good. My favourite songs here are Man On The Silver Mountain, Black Sheep Of the Family (because i'm the black sheep of my family), Catch The Rainbow (classic and i just like to say that this sounds so much like Iron Maiden's Strange world i know this was 5 years before it but it really does), Temple Of The King & Still I'm Sad. This album is a classic album if you like Deep Purple or anything Ronnie James Dio has done then buy this and Rainbow's Rising i havn't got that yet but i have heard Run With The Wolf and that song alone is a masterpiece.

Looking back at the state of rock in the '80s there are to my mind very few rock albums that came out of that decade that can rightly be called classics. To be honest aside from Guns N Roses 'Appetite For Destruction' this is the only other album from that era that still sounds brilliant todsy some 25 years on.
As far as I'm concerned you can't even begin to call yourself a rock fan if you do not own this album. Every song from the opening tolling bells that introduce 'Hells Bells' to the finale 'Back In Black' never lets up every song being aweesome and it is one of those albums that no matter how old it gets will stay fresh forever.
Brian Johnson may not be as iconic a rock star as the late Bon Scott was but he belts out each ... Read More:

How anyone, even die-hard Zeppelin fans, can give this four or even five stars is way beyond my comprehension. The circumstances surrounding the band during its recording are well-documented (Page and Bonzo strung out, Plant injured then stricken with death of his son) leaving JPJ as the main contributor here.
Zeppelin's bassist does a good production job, particularly on the atmospheric opener In The Evening and the slow-blues closer I'm Gonna Crawl, but overall this is the sound of a band whose best days were well behind them, fighting to remain relevant in a world of New Wave and post-punk.
Page's playing is all over the place. The mighty riff for In The Evening is an exception, instead we are left with the appalling country ... Read More:

Great album, let down by some lame copy protection which means that it isn't recognised by my computer so it can't be ripped for MP3 player listening.

Spurred into digging out this CD again after seeing the band live at Mr. Kyps in Poole on September 21st, (for the second year running - check their website, they're on tour and may be playing at a venue near you!), the tracks covered here are excellent. I originally got into Budgie in 1968 with their first album, tempted partly by the sleeve and the publicity surrounding the band at the time, and also the intriguing 'Nude Disintegrating Parachutist Woman' song title; which is as strangely quirky today as it was back then. And they didn't stop there, either, as 'In The Grip Of A Tyrefitter's Hand' also on here justifies. Budgie reformed partly due to a DJ in Texas playing their tracks and a cult-following building from the airplay, and thankfully enough fans remember them vividly as an excellent ... Read More:
