This is suprisingly underrated. In my opinion this album is awesome and goes along with all the other classic Iron Maiden albums. There are some really awesome maiden songs here Holy Smokes & Public Enema Number One are my favourites out of this album. I think only not too keane on Mother Russia it starts off cool and ends cool but a little repetitive (sorry to say). Iron Maiden after the departure of the guitarist Adrian Smith went onto more Rock N' Roll style which for isnt a bad thing it works for me so i think this album is awesome. Maybe not the best place to start with Iron Maiden but a very good buy for Maiden fans should i really be mentioning that?. New Iron Maiden fans start with The Number Of The Beast. UP THE IRONS!!!!!!!

It was 1972 - I think - those days are all a bit hazy. Anyway, my mate asked if I wanted to get tickets for Alice Cooper and I replied as above. All of the schlock horror hadn't been visited on the UK yet so I was in complete ignorance. "It's not a woman you pillock - it's a band." he explaiined. This, the first ever British gig, would be in Birmingham. I wasn't too enthusiastic and asked what they were about. He explained that they had the longest hair of any rock band ever. That was good enough for me so we went. We went but the gig was postponed for four days 'cause they were delayed in immigration as undesirables. My new girlfriend said that they took a live snake on stage! The anticipation grew notorious.

This is the Iron Maiden album that divided the fans, there bound to be at least one album of every band that does that. Sadly I wasn't there when Iron Maiden & Heavy Metal bursted fastly into the 80s when music was creative exciting and sometimes brutal etc Slayer. I've been an Iron Maiden fan since 2006(i'm only 17) and I have all Iron Maiden albums, a couple of the live ones(surprisingly not "Live After Death" will get it soon). I first bought Iron Maiden latest album "A Matter Of Life And Death" out of luck which to be honest blew me away, after that I bought their whole back catalogue and love every one of their albums. In my opinion their weakest albums are "The X Factor" & "Virtual XI" still great albums(to me) but lack the sheer brilliance ... Read More:

Down To Earth

I do not like this album very much at all. It is alright, but it doesn't have the creativity when Ricthie was in Deep Purple and on his first 2 albums with Rainbow. When I listen to this I feel like "Havn't I heard This riff before?" and hear in the back of my head Dio singing "I'm the man on the silver mountain". Ritchie aint that great on this album he's got a couple of cool riffs which only last for about 10 seconds, the lead singer sorry to compare first off aint that great off a singer and will never match up to Dio(the man on the silver mountain). The drummer is pretty good actually on this album.

Don't get me wrong here, when bands have a change in their music (metallica for example they did the change very well) but this is just all so meh. Since ... Read More:

Before the drink and drugs got him Phil was truly a Celtic bard who could romanticise about his absent dad and sing tenderly of the girls he too would leave behind. The poignant theme of the Vagabond and The Orphan runs through the first three albums and Eric Bell's beautiful guitar accentuates the poet's loneliness. Check out the guitar break on 'Honesty Is No Excuse', it's heartstopping. I copied 'Diddy Levine' for a mate of mine who was adopted and he absolutely hated it. It's that good! A true artist who just got farther and farther away from his feelings. This album has a depth to it that, in my opinion, he never recaptured. Amazing.

now listen to me people - pay no attention to amazons review or indeed to the other reviewers. this is far and away from being this bands best album and it is in NO WAY a heavy metal album.

dont get me wrong, i like b.o.c - they were a very interesting band, but they were very, very unreliable. very hit and miss. nearly every album has something of value, and when they got it right they produced some great songs, but the lukewarm outweighs the great by a long margin.

nowhere is this more evident than on this album. where all these reviewers are mentally in comparing this to sabbath i have no idea. its laughable! this is very lightweight rock. the only heavy things on here are the song-titles which all sound menacing but the content doesnt live up to it. i repeat, THIS ... Black Rose

This is undoubtedly one of the best Lizzy albums and indeed that last great one they did, after this we only saw/heard glimpses of Lynott's greatness. He was my hero growing up and this album was one of the reasons but it also shows the signs of the cracks that were starting to appear. Track selection is one bone of contention for me. I would've left off Sarah, it is a solo track not a Lizzy track, Get Out Of Here is filler and S&M is an interesting idea but not an album track and doesn't fit in here. Instead of these I would've added in Parisienne Walkways,
A Night In The Life Of Blues Singer, Dear Miss Lonely Hearts (the rocked up band version they occasionally played live), and last but not least I would add in King's Call this song is one of Lynott's best but instead of the Knopfler sound it ... Read More:

I find this album so enjoyable.It is a grower.You just cannot pick holes in Phils music,everything he does is brilliant or close to,and he seems to do it in a natural and effortless way it really does take your breath away at the mans brilliance.There is a good feel and a warmth to this album and you cannot but help being in a good mood after listening to it, more so than on Black Rose the previous album.I have listened to some of the bad reviews on this album and my advice is give it a chance .Phil was a proud man and his pride would never allow himself to produce a bad album.I find it vibrant,honest and innovating throughout.5 stars and forever unequalled.
