I'm old enough to remember the raw excitement of this album when it first hit the stores and it still feels as fresh more than 30 years on. The "wall of sound" generated by Scabies thrashing the drums for all he's worth, Sensible's hyperactive bass work and James's turbo-charged guitar is the perfect backdrop for Vanian's vampire-on-speed vocals. It documents one of punk's finest moments, but more than anything else is a classic slice of rock 'n roll. The original vinyl sported the enigmatic phrase "Made to be played loud at low volume." My advice is, play it loud and jump around. If this doesn't get you moving, you're deader than un-dead.

Teenage Warning

Recieved opinion has it that this album was patchy and disappointing and that the band promised more, and while i won't kid you it's a masterpiece it certainly has it's share of punk classics, particularly the title track, I'm An Upstart and Never Again.When the punk retrospectives are rolling this band is usually a footnote at best but for me they were the real deal; real anger suffused with a pop sensibility.At their best they rank with the greats of that era and should not be dismissed as sub-Sham headbangers or whatever nonsense the art school meeja crowd will tell you to fit their self serving agenda today.

Adventure: Remastered & Expanded

as you know "adventure" is Televisions follow up to the excellent "marquee moon".
In my opinion adventure is just as good, if not better than it,s predecessor. It's definitely a more mellow sound for this LP but the song writing is excellent and the music is top quality also .With repeat listening of this album the songs start to reveal hidden depths and are really infectious.
Ironically i play "adventure" more often than "marquee moon" and i have grown to love it very much indeed.
So if have already got "marquee moon" than this cd is the perfect companion set to there ground breaking debut.
Buy it !!!!

Manscape

I put this in the CD player, pressed play and actually stopped and took it out to make sure I hadn't put in a disc by a dreadful 80's synth pop band. Sadly it was Wire!! Now I love the first three Wire albums and the latest two and everything in between has until now been a mystery to me. I wish it had remained that way. I mean what were they thinking? This is the worst kind of rubbish and completely lacks their sound, humour, quirkyness and tunefulness. Whatever happens do not buy, this is only good for an interesting coaster unless I can offload it on somebody else on e.bay.

Just received this great cd from Amazon and am thrilled with it!
I've been aticipating a cd release for this LP for ages and am so glad it's arrived.
The best thing for me about this album is that it reinstates Billy Idol as a great rock performer and writer and has rescued him from the "gary glitters retarded nephew" image that he has made for himself in the states where his musical output has,in my opinion been crap.
However this album is not just William as it features some great guitar playing from Derwood and a good solid rhythm section with Tony james (whose song writing seriously outweighs his bass playing!)and Mark Laff kicking up a storm.One of the strongpoints of this collection for me seems that it almost captures a snapshot of ... Fun all the way at full speed.Having got this on L.P. all that time ago,iv got into load's of band's,from soul,ska,rock,you name it & I will have a go."Incredible Shrinking Dickies" is one of the best c.d.s I have ever got my hand,s on.Come to think of it the "Dickies" are the dog ****.Hope they rip some more number's for us all,& soon.

Good buy for enthusiast/collector as it contains the spedding demos and mike thorne demos in uncut glory (for a change). A Thorne demo appears at the end of each CD (not mentioned on sleeve). Proof the band could play, hairs on back of my neck stand when I listen to the power and (this will upset the Sid Vicious type angry sex pistols fan) funky-ness of the early Pistols. The rejected Thomas "Anarchy" is a joy - better guitar solo's in my opinion. Shame Steve Jones' "Audition" comment is tagged on to the wrong "Pretty Vacant".

Finest: Ever Fallen in Love

This a great compilation of one of the finest bands to come out of the late 70s. OK it does miss out a couple of essential singles that you can find on the definitive SINGLES GOING STEADY but these are replaced with some superb album tracks including the two seven minute epics "Moving Away From The Pulse beat" and "I Believe". If you just want a genuine best of this album will do but it also works as a great introduction to any new listeners to a band who should be mentioned in the same breath as The Jam, Pistols and Clash etc. It also shows what a fantastic but underrated songwriter Pete Shelley was. ENJOY!

An unbelieveable album, which never outstays its 29-minute welcome. From the opening, majestic bars of "Tutti Frutti" (Jesus wept, how could anybody drum like that?) to the closing shudder of the title track, this really is an amphetamine-fuelled dance over the grave of American commercialism. Personal favourite: "High School", with its ironic chorus of "Sis Boom Bah" and the twin guitars working in perfect harmony. Smarter than the Dolls, more streetwise than Iggy, the MC5 still managed to tear themselves apart, in the days when that was what you did. By God, I miss them.
