This album is the psychedelic heebie jeebie that marks the end of the darker first phase of the stranglers. They plumb depths of obscurity here, its not uplifting in the slightest, and many may hate this, but it has quirky acid-soaked moments which, when they work, almost make you believe this was a successful experiment. themeninblack doesn't always sound good, for every thundering track like "Thrown Away" there is a painful "Just Like Nothing on Earth" - but it's a fantastic effort, at times echoing early pink floyd and shows a lot of musical ambition which unfortunately dried up a bit from then on.

Pretty much maligned by critics and some fans,I reckon the album stands up pretty well. It's got the lot!Terrific chugga-chugga guitars on Bop 'til You Drop, choruses that are scorched on to your brain after one listen(check out A Real Cool Time,a Ramones gem)and a fabulous turn from Joey on Bye Bye Baby.Debbie Harry throws in a few "oooh ooohs" on Go Lil' Camara Go and Dee Dee belts out the frantic punker I Lost My Mind.A couple of tracks find the band on automatic pilot(notably I know Better Now and I'm Not Jesus)but let's face it,da Brudders on cruise control are head and shoulders above most bands!Play Loud!!

CRASS were the only genuine ANARHO-PUNKS who actually lived the 'punk' ideal, operating completely independently from their EPPING FOREST safe-house.
'CHRIST-the ALBUM' was released in late '82, and following their previous low-priced vinyl releases, this album [on initial release] was a radical departure, a '2-record set', lavish in presentation, housed in a fetching stark black box, costing a relatvely-high cost 5 pounds [expensive by CRASS standards].
the SOUTHERN STUDIOS sessions here yielded glossy, impeccably-produced production values, but still remained very much at heart an anarchic aural document, which I regard as among CRASS' finest works.
Opening with the screeching guitarwork of 'HAVE A NICE ... Read More:

The Stranglers produced three albums in quick succession. 'Rattus Norvegicus', their first, was liked by much of the music media in 1977, while a few short months later saw the release of 'No More Heroes' - an album that was less favourably reviewed, but which, at the same time, led to The Stranglers charting with several of its tracks. Then, in 1978 came 'Black and White'. While the feel of the album was undeniably 'Strangleresque', the power of J.J.Burnell's bass guitar, the subtle weaving of Dave Greenfield's synth, the merciless pounding of Jet Black's drums and the distorted, overdriven - yet somehow 'controlled' lead guitar of Hugh Cornwell had become almost a single entity. The result, as heard on 'Black and White' is a set of superbly ... Read More:

The john peel show gave the chance for the Slits to be heard when no record company wanted to know them, I had a cassette of this recorded from the radio for years, this obviously predates the also excellent Cut but has raw power the Slits at their very best

The Dickies didn't do much worth commenting on after "Killer Klowns From Outer Space" but this is a throwback to their mad, silly and ridiculous lyrics of the past (or are they geniuses by disguising brilliant songs with weird lyrics?). Most of this album is worth listening to for Dickies fans so its hard to pick out certain songs. "Toxic Avenger" is one my favourites and "Just Say Yes," "Stuck in a Condo (With Marlon Brando)" and "Elevator" are also enjoyable listens. For die-hard Dickies fans of old then "Oh Boy" and "I'm on Crack" will have you up jumping around and playing air guitar for a few days after hearing them. And there is a homage to Star Trek in the completely barmy "Make ... Read More:

Final Damnation is an excellent live show from The Damned's Reunion Concert of summer 1988, which saw original members Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Brian James and Rat Scabies on stage blasting out some classic Damned from their early days. The track listing is heavily based on early Damned material, much more "punkier" than their later styles. Kicking off with fast and furious renditions of "See Her Tonite" and "Neat Neat Neat" the band doesn't fail to please the crowd. The band play with lots of energy; the songs are fast and furious. Following the blast of material from their debut album "Damned Damned Damned", excellent performances of "Smash It Up" and "Love Song" are well worth it. A favourite ... Read More:
