This has got to be the best upstarts album. There is no chance of slowing down on this one. The upstarts areon top form with some amazing, agressive lyrics about life for the working class in late 70's/early 80's britain. If your a fan of raw, political, street punk then i would definatly reccomend this. It has to be said, this is a definate step up from Teenage Warning, though that is an amazing album but this album is more consistant of great songs. My personal favourates are Never 'ad Nothin', Police Oppression a great song about police brutality, Shotgun Solution a song about revenge, Out Of Control, We Gotta Get Outta This Place a cover of The Animals song. This should be in every Punk/Oi fans collection becasue you wont find a many better ... Read More:

Soldier

Although it is often regarded by some as one of Iggy s weaker albums I disagree I think that it holds up very well today .It is full of catchy tunes and the production is excellent . Although some would say that it is not full of classics it has great songs like knockin em down and i'm a conservative . My personal favourite is the Glen Matlock written ambition which I would put in Iggys top five songs of all time .

Although it is often regarded by some as one of Iggy s weaker albums I disagree I think that it holds up very well today .It is full of catchy tunes and the production is excellent . Although some would say that it is not full of classics it has great songs like knockin em down and i'm a conservative . My personal favourite is the Glen Matlock written ambition which I would put in Iggys top five songs of all time .

TV Eye: 1977 Live

Terrific live album of this intractable musician. Iggy Pop can hardly be surpassed in fierceness and intensity. He behaves like a hurt wild animal that has been urged into narrowness and now beats out blindly. Whereas the studio versions of the songs are already quite fast, the pace on these live versions is just breathtaking. I don't want to highlight any single songs. They are all excellent. By the way, on piano is David Bowie who also has written some songs together with Iggy Pop.

Conscious Consumer

I'm giving this album 5 stars.The wit and humor of the band's seminal work is mostly missing but the focus remains tight.

Musically, it is very reminiscent of Poly's severely under-appreciated solo work in the 80s.

I knew Poly, or Maharani as she is known, from my days as a Hare Krshna devotee and she is a sweet and complex personality which I feel this album reflects.

It's not just punk rock guitar slashing and it does a very good job of servicing her vocals.

I sense most will find this to be an interesting and honest work.

The First Letter

Wire continued their exploration of electronics with their second LP of the 1990s. Reforming without drummer Robert Gotobed, who had been deprived of work on 'Manscape' and its subsequent tour, they consequently dropped a letter and became Wir (pronounced 'wire'). 'The First Letter' continues the easy science of 'Manscape' and Colin Newman and Graham Lewis's explorations of computer music which found later outlet in Lewis's He Said projects and Newman's swim~ label. There is however little of the pop sensibility that informs Wire's best works here, and while Newman can't resist bending kinky words to a catchy tune as always, 'So and So it Grows' (a joint Lewis/Newman construct, oddly enough) is really the only notable tune in the collection.

Released shortly before Ian's untimely death, this is a fine return to true 'funky music hall' Blockheads form. The music's tight, the words are funny / poignant / well observed and stand as a true memorial to Mr Doo-er-y's genius and to the musicianship of his band.

If you loved New Boots for its wit and Do It Yourself for its funk, you'll love this too......
