Both the single and album, 'No More Heroes,' were eagerly gobbled up by punk fans already familiar with the band's exhilarating mix of brutal bass and keyboard runs. While the single gained a unanimous thumbs-up as did the other hit, 'Something Better Change,' the album took some criticism for being a pale rehash of The Stranglers' debut effort. In truth, some of the lyrical content is too obviously rude for the sake of it, but the band still had some imaginative ideas, notably 'Dead Ringer,' 'Dagenham Dave,' and 'Burning Up Time.' 'School Mam,' which finishes the album, is almost vaudevillean, if tasteless. Bonus tracks bolster the album, however. This was the one !!

The album that turned me into a Weller fan for life.

I can vividly remember going to buy it, the day it was released, and it blew me away.
The punk aggression mixed with rocking tunes and every beat of the album telling me that "this was the time" !!

And it certainly was. All Mod Cons is the most accomplished Jam album but nothing touches the raw energy of this one.

Anyone into Punk, Mod, Rock music will realise what an album this is once they have graced their "turntable" with it.

If you want power and energy, dance and aggression,..........LOOK NO FURTHER !!

A MUST for any music fan !!

This album is as iconic as the band that recorded it. A true punk classic - it is music from the streets - music from the gutter -this is what real punk was, totally no frills music and image. No fancy production and wardrobe like other bands of the time, this group where real and the album reflects this. All the songs are blistering corkers, apart from 'i wanna be your boyfriend', which ive always thought was a bit soppy and poppy, but over the years it has grew on me and is to me an essential track on the album. Songs like 'i dont wanna walk around with you' and the way it fuses into the ending track 'today your love tomorrow the world' is pure class. With their 1979 album 'The Raven' the Stranglers produced what has to be regarded a true masterpiece which sounds as original and brilliant today as it did when first released: the mature sound they'd developed by the time they recorded this album is nothing short of astonishing, JJ Burnel's powerful, sinewy bass and Cornwell's wiry and intricate guitar-lines enveloped by Greenfield's arch and swirling keyboard and synth, underpinned by the solid but never ostentatious drumming of Jet Black. Weller's desision to split The Jam at the height of their creative and commercial power must have seemed insane to many. Not least Bruce and Rick, whose psyches, egos and bank acounts must've suffered irreperable damage. Mrs Weller remembers the day the announcement was made, and loads of heartbroken kids on scooters rocked up at her house, pleading with her to tell Paul to change his mind. Awwwww....

But, with the benefit of not inconsiderable hindsight, Paul Weller's decision to bring the project to an end was not only the right one, but showed courage and vision. How many in his position would have felt that the money was right, and the near-universal love of the band would mean that knocking it on the head would be to invite a backlash? Loads.

Written and recorded with friend David Bowie, Iggy Pop's debut solo album is a brilliant, but gloomy affair that differs markedly from his last (official) release - 1973's Raw Power. The crash, bang and wallop which characterised The Stooges exhilarating hard rock is displaced by a variety of effects and textures that include industrial noise (`Mass Production'), electronica (`Sister Midnight' and `Nightclubbing') and saxophone-driven, jazzy atmospherics (`Tiny Girls'). Also, Pop's brooding, nuanced vocal performances on the likes of `Baby' and `China Girl' owe as much to Frank Sinatra's sublime singing on In The Wee Small Hours and Only The Lonely as they do to his rock roots.

An utterly fantastic collection.

The Buzzcocks were masters of those three minute soap operas (on black vinyl)that we used to spend 99 pence a throw on back in the seventies.

They started as part of the punk movement, but went on to go beyond this, practically inventing the concept of power pop on their own with tight singles with great tunes and a good dose of camp.

Most of the Buzzcocks albums were bitty. This great collection represents them at their best. No filler guaranteed!

in my opinion and several others this album is pretty good,it was slated by the music press and critics,why?ok its not got the raw energy as in the city but theres some good tracks on here,the fantastic"in the street today,standards,here comes the weekend and the modern world to name but a few,an overlooked album that goes undeserved...go on buy it.
