This is USA calling. Slaughter & the Dogs are one of England's best bands that DIDN'T make it in America! Too bad. Their first LP "Dog Style" (1978) is a great combo of glam and punk. And this comp is a great introduction to Slaughter & the Dogs. Other great UK bands that didn't crack the US charts (but should have) include the Photos, Witchfynde, the Chords, Gymslips, Cock Sparrer, and Eddie & the Hot Rods.

This album has so many memories for me. I used to listen to it every Friday night when I was getting ready to go out. Songs like Howling At The Moon, Danger Zone and Chasing The Night really got you in the mood for a great night out. A considerably heavier album than anything they had done previously but it felt very refreshing at the time and proved that the Ramones were adaptable for the eighties. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

After the success of New Boots and Do It Yourself this album was recorded at a time of turmoil in the the groups history. Ian said he was disapointed with the outcome however if you enjoyed the earlier albums and love the way Ian crafted his clever lyrics please listen to this. The single Sueperman's Big Sister will not catch the imagination but followed up by the lyricaly wonderful tracks such as Over The Points, Take Your Elbow Out Of The Soup Your Sitting On The Chicken ( Still the best title to a song ever!) and the autobiographical Hey, Hey Take Me Away you will love it. Other tracks have their own hidden depths and will not disappoint anyone you has enjoyed earlier recordings.

Indeed, look at all those peaches. Each and every one is oozing precious juice that will slake your thirst for fine and innovative rock fruit.

There's a couple ("Something Better Change" and "All Day & All of the Night") that are not as ripe as the others, but the rest are firm and brightly coloured with brilliant hooks, imaginative arrangements, and marvellous lyrics. Make sure that you choose the most tasty peach of all, by lucky chance called "Always The Sun".

Tracks one to seven cover the EMI/United Artists years, whilst the remainder cover the band's move to Epic.

If you have only just got into this band like I had and decided that you wanted a good collection of songs I would recommend that you buy this. Right from the opening words 'So F****** What' this album reels you in with catches guitar playing and great (sometimes humourous lyrics)

This is not an album for those of you who are easily offended but for those who don't care and want to hear a band that 'influenced' Metallica (So What appears on Garage Inc) then this is a brilliant buy.

Highlights are So What, Long Live Punk, Animal and Judges and Whores

Live 'n' Sleazy

Disc one is a copy (minus one song; "Face") of the previous released Friday the Thirteenth. A beautiful registration of the Stranglers mark II (minus Hugh Cornwell but with John Ellis on guitars and vocalist Paul Roberts) at the Royal Albert Hall in 1997 with the addition of the Electra strings. A beautiful concert with stunning new arrangements and inventive use of the strings is the result.
Disc two is a mix of studio material from the albums About Time, Written in Red and Coup de Grace, recorded in 1995-1998. The material on these records is ok but unfortunately not as stunning as the stuff the Stranglers made in 1977-1983.

Aural Sculpture

This album for me marks a vast improvement on the previous one, "Feline". Whether this was due to Laurie Latham's production (the opening to the track "Laughing" is so reminiscent of his work for Paul Young) is a moot point: sometimes the brass and backing vocals work, sometimes they don't. What there is on this album for sure, however, is plenty of echo and depth, and plenty of polish too. (Compare the extra tracks at the end of this CD produced solely by the Stranglers.)

Of the original eleven tracks, I can take or leave the ironical "Let Me Down Easy" (all that's missing is the orchestra); the 50s rocker "Uptown"; the 60s rocker "Punch & Judy"; "Souls" (nothing special); and the quirky "Mad Hatter".
