With over thirty minutes of extras, this CD provides over an hour's strangulation. Their first album after switching labels, "Feline" witnesses a further move to a more European feel.
First the not-so-good news: "It's A Small World" and "Ships That Pass in The Night", despite interesting moments have contorted arrangements; "Paradise" has a wonderfully percussive opening, but JJ's falsetto voice grates and his philosophical offering are mere platitudes; "Blue Sister" is nothing special; neither is "Never Say Goodbye"; and the least said about "Let's Tango In Paris", the better - at least it is very short.
But "Midnight Summer Dream" is a fine opener, very French, very Jean Michel Jarre with its echoing synths, and Hugh's ... Read More:

This album was an unashamed attempt for the band to finally score a hit by putting the name of legendary producer Phil Spector on the back of the album sleeve and since this album's release many people have criticised it for many different reasons, many of them totally unfair. Most people's main citicism is that Spector's distinctive production style does not suit the band at all and that many of the Ramones own distinctiv trademarks are missing. This could not be further from the truth, Spector's 'big' sounding production suits the bands 'BBIIGG' sound perfectly and all of the bands superb trademarks are intact, chainsaw guitar and all. The only gripe I have with this album is the horrendous disco version of 'Baby I Love You' but as only one Ramone appears ... Read More:

Disappointed by the Ramones albums? This album packs more songs in to less time, with genuinely witty and intelligent lyrics and inventive music. Pre-empting the post punk movement, Wire moved on from the tired nihilism and cliches of punk. Pink Flag is filled with plays on the song structure. 106 Beats That was originally intended to be a song of exactly 100 syllables, and the title track was supposed to be "Johnny B. Goode" written with one chord. Whilst the Sex Pistol's debut was carefully crafted in the studio, Pink Flag's clean production ensures that instruments carve out clean shapes through the mix. For Wire, there was to be no cashing in, as they moved on and continued to innovate over their next albums.

Cockney geezer Ian Dury's first album backed by the Blockheads is nothing short of a British institution. It's like a good cuppa, or fish'n'chips - it's part of what being British is all about, or more specifically what being a geezer in London is all about.
This is in some ways the most personal of his albums, with a nod to his stage hero ('Sweet Gene Vincent'), and a monologue about his relationship with his long estranged father ('My Old Man') sitting between the irreverent but lyrically genius tracks like 'Billericay Dickie' and 'Clever Trever'. Like most musicians who make social observations, he sticks mostly to his own 'manor'. This is East London/Essex throughout, but very accessible to anyone from anywhere in the UK.
