Or when The Jam took off and really started fulfilling the potential they had shown with a string of singles and intermittently on their previous albums In The City And This Is The Modern World. All Mod Cons see's Paul Weller embracing a more English stance to his song-writing , with undercurrents of 1960,s pop like The Kinks - so much so they even cover the Kinks song "David Watts". The albums title also alludes playfully to the bands prevalence in the Mod revival.

When I was 13 and these records were out originally, I was limited to paper round money, which rarely stretched to buying singles at full price, but rather to wait 'til they were in the John Menzies "reduced to clear" box! This of course meant that on most occasions (but not all) that all the picture cover singles were gone & we were left with the plain sleeves. This collection rights those wrongs. All the early singles are here (& a couple we had no chance of getting) lovingly reproduced as the originals were. This is a very satisfying collection to own (box set 2 completes the early years). Buy it & cherish!

In 1996, the original UK Subs line-up reunited and recorded over 30 songs, releasing them simultaneously on 2 separate discs each one a bit over a half hour long to commemorate their 20th anniversary. A good collection of songs just above the 2 minute mark in average, with an urgent hardcore-punk air feel to them but without totally loosing their bluesy-rock'n roll roots.The album is fast-paced and the playing excellent. Superb guitar work by Nicky Garrat (bow your heads in respect) and DEMOLISHING overall sound. This cd is part 2 to the release while part 1 is called Quintessentials.
