Chances are you are already a Stranglers fan hoping against hope that this album has finally been released on CD. Well it has. However, if you're not a Stranglers fan but a seeker of genuine curios (like Van Dyke Park's 'Song Cycle' or Comus's 'First Utterance') then you have certainly stumbled across the right place. The film to this soundtrack by Stranglers keyboardist Dave Greenfield and bassist JJ Burnel apparently never saw the light of day. Now that sounds promising, doesn't it? You know it does. The Damned are without doubt one of the best bands to come out of the original punk movement. This is because they knew how to write great songs, from Brian James raw writing on the first 2 albums through the brilliant Machine Gun Etiquette, The Black Album and Strawberries where Captain's influence comes to the fore. On Strawberries, The Damned seemed to be at a songwriting peak and found many new fans. There really isn't a bad song on the album, maybe songs that the fans wanting a harder sound may have found too soft but for those there are songs like Ignite. However, the brilliance of songs like Stranger On The Town, Gun Fury, Badtime For Bonzo and Under The Floor Again make this album one of their best. Not as raw as Damned Damned Damned or the ... Machine Gun Etiquette [25th Anniversary Edition]

When it comes to punk albums there's none better, when it comes to daft punk albums then the Damned's Machine Gun Etiquette is special. I now own this album on vinyl,cassette, CD and 25th Anniversary CD, I can't get enough of it. From Love Song launching the album through to Plan 9, Channel 7 and ending with Smash It Up parts 1 and 2 every track is a real classic. I recently saw the Damned live at the Nottm Rock City (my favourite venue) and they played just about every track from Machine Gun Etiquette which highlighted the importance of this album to the band. Once you have heard this you will be hooked, go on buy it and be happy forever.

If you want a starting point as to what Siouxie and the Banshees were about, start here.
This a live collection of songs from the first 4 albums, plus the single Dear Prudence and it is stunning, starting with Israel, it just gets better, ending with huge scarey Voodoo Dolly.
Amazing sound, great performance, Robert Smith( The Cure) 'filling in' for the recently departed but brillant guitarist John Mc Geoch ( albums he played on - Kaleidoscope, and Juju), a band on form and enjoying themselves.
get the DVD, as its great to watch.
One of the best live albums ever, in my opinion.

Twice Upon a Time

Siouxsie and the Banshees were always one of the most enigmatic bands to come out of the punk movement. They were about the last of the London bands to get a record deal, and they only really stayed with the punk theme for the first 2 albums.

This isn't quite the classic that 'Once Upon a Time' was, but it still has some great tracks on it. From the shoe-staring deliberate 'Melt' through the studio-perfect 'Cities in Dust' and on to the fantastic dance-beats of 'Kiss them for Me' this album shows a band evolving at a rate that few others could match.

There are a couple of down points though, like the over-orchestrated 'Dazzle' and a couple of other weak tracks, but overall a damn-good album.

I bought this last year despite owning the original albums and I have to say it was money very well spent. If you are hesitating as I did my advice is just buy it! The sound quality is quite superb, Weller's performances on some of the stuff not previously released are almost faultless - "Stand By Me" is a particular highlight - and this really shows The Jam were so much more than the sum of the parts.

First of all: how amazing are these Rhino reissues of the Ramones' albums? I mean this one has more bonus tracks than original album tracks! Fantastic value, as the Ramones' albums on their own were very short. These reissues use the original album covers, come in slipcases, and the booklets all contain lots of contemporary pictures of the band, and excellent new sleevenotes (by different people for each album), and also print the lyrics! They're the best!

The bonus tracks on this album are a (complete, I assume) Ramones live performance at the ROXY from December 1976, with songs from the (fantastic) first album as well as from the second album itself. I have over the years listenened to most (if not all) of the so called 'best albums ever made' and there is no doubt in my mind this is the one. Rock 'n'roll in its purest incarnation. Please, if you love guitar rock 'n' roll trust me and buy this album and, if you don't agree, I'll give you your money back (actually the last bit is c**p but you get the idea.)

Quality band. Quality album. New Rose, Neat Neat Neat, etc. Carlsberg don't make Punk Albums, but if they did, this would be it. Possibly the greatest LP commited to vinyl (or CD as it's called nowadays). The Damned were the first and the best Punk band. Play it LOUD at your sister.....or anyone else!

When I reviewed the original album I said it was 'perfect' and thankfully they hadn't added anything cos how can you improve on perfection? Well the great thing about this is they HAVEN'T messed around with the original, just added a disc with the superb Peel sessions. Genius! :o) Im a very happy man! I agree with the reviewer above though, 'Voices' would have made this complete....... shame.
