I came across Samantha James whilst listening to a Hed Kandi CD. I liked the track instantly and bought the album straight away. No regrets. This is a blisfful collection of post club chillout music. It's the sort of music that soundtracks long summers and Ibiza sunsets. The first track Rise is probably the best track, and maybe the track that will bring most people to this album but it really is ALL good. The vibe is perfect: slick, soulful and chilled out.

The story goes that Martha Reeves was yanked from her secretarial chair to fill in when Mary Wells had cancelled a session at short notice when she and the Vandellas, named after Van Dyke Street in Detroit MI and the torch singer Della Reese, cut their first group record in 1963, though this incident is elsewhere placed in 1961, even before they had backed Marvin Gaye on his first hit, Stubborn Kind of Fellow. 
By 1965 when Dance Party came out the Vandellas were Betty Kelly and Rosalind Ashford, both from Detroit. It contained, along with their B-sides, the timeless classics Dancing In The Street (turned down by Kim Weston), Nowhere To Run and Wild One, all of which had already been big hit singles. The Contours had a second lease of life in the 80s when they were seen in Dirty Dancing the Concert Tour doing an extended version of Do you love me-their biggest hit from 1962.
Liverpool groups took notice including one called Faron's Flamingoes who covered the song on the same label which had the license to TM product-Oriole.
And the story goes that Brian Poole in conversation with the same wrote down the words from his record,recorded the song and topped the charts with it!
Hard to believe but it sounds like an urban myth to me.Why copy the words the sheet music was only a few pence.
This was the guy whose group the Tremeloes had been favored by Decca over the Beatles and needed a hit as their singles up to then had flopped. ... Read More:

The All Time Greatest Movie Songs

This double CD package of the greatest movie songs is absolutely excellent. All the songs from old to new are easy to enjoy and you find yourself singing along to all of them in no time, no matter what your taste in music is. All of the tracks give something out, like a radiance from Coco Lee's 'A love before time' which appeared in the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. And a speeding down the highway sensation whilst listening to Go west's ' King of wishful thinking' which was in the extrodinary and wonderful film, Pretty woman. There are tracks for all different ages on the two CD's, and it's a guarantee that everyone in the world will like at least 1 track. Even if you prefer Dance or Hip hop music.

While the conventional wisdom has "Songs in the Key of Life" as SWs best album, I found it to be a little long winded, with too many tracks running out of ideas/steam long before their end,

On Inner Visions IMHO, we find him with a collection of songs which hang together beautifully, which is perfectly paced, and without a duff track. The familiar hits need no introduction, and those which never made a single release are as strong.

When this album was released, Stevie was pushing the boundaries , developing the synthesiser sound he had pioneered on Music of my Mind" and "Talking Book", taking Soul music (and music in general in fact) to new places.
