Daugther of the famous Nat King Cole, Natalie Cole is a star in her own right. Her soulfull voice is a joy to listen to.

Having heard her on Parkinson I went straight out and bought this album. Whilst a couple of the songs are slightly weak, the rest make up for it and it was definately worth the money.

Latter day AWB were more pop than funk, but this twoofer is absolutely essential for 'Love Wont Get The the Way', a stonker of a track which harks back to the sublime moments on the White Album where Gorrie and Stuart shared lead vocals. The track first appeared on an Atlantic contract filler album ( Volume 8 )and comes from the same sessions as Shine, but wipes the floor with anything else on that penultimate album.

Exactly why Motown chose to repackage this collection is unclear, but the original now appears to be out of print. If you didn't buy the earlier compilation, you can buy it in this re-packaged form. Obviously, if you bought the original, you don't need this.

This comprehensive collection contains all Marvin's important American hits as well as highlighting other aspects of his music, including his political songs of the seventies. His British hits were sometimes different from his American hits. Three UK top ten hits are missing, though as this is an American compilation, there is no reason why they should have been included. The Best of Ray Charles: the Atlantic Years

I would strongly recommend anybody to buy instead "The Definitive Ray Charles" as it is not only more complete (including '60 music recorded with another label) but because there are some fantastic tracks of the '50s missing here.
"Mess Around", "Leave my woman alone" "Don't let the sun catch you crying" are some of these, and (worse of all) a collection of Ray Charles cannot be called essential when "What'd I say" is present in its EDITED form (part 1)!
Moreover the sound quality of this CD "Atlantic Years" is nothing special, being a remaster of over 10 years ago. Again "The Definitive" is a much better compilation for quality and track selection.
